Almost a home run

After two weeks I'm happy with this watch. I wanted a large easy to read face with accurate time keeping and it delivers. Less important to me is the way too small impossible to read date window at the bizarre 4:30 position. The band is pretty high quality and finished well with a great clasp and the must have protective winding stem. looks expensive for a reasonable price. I was lucky that the band fit my larger wrist without adjusting. The one weakness I found is the fact that the crystal although beveled at the edge, is not flush with the watch face. It sticks out just enough to put it at risk for easy damage if you do the killer door knob strike. This for me makes it a dress watch and not for a workman or active outdoorsman. That's a shame because otherwise it has the look and seems rugged with a secure SS band with double locking clasp.
Solid Watch at a Great Price

I bought this watch in July, 2013. It is now April, 2015. The watch is still going strong.
The body of the watch is stainless steel, brushed. The back is screw-down and laser engraved with Stuhrling's logo and a smattering of technical info like ALL STAINLESS STEEL and other things they think are impressive enough to be written on the watch. The bezel has a numbered, unidirectional ratcheting fixture used to time things, originally the air left in a diver's tank. The fixture is somewhat difficult to rotate, but the burrs cut into it are sufficiently grippy to manage it. It is very reminiscent of the Omega Seamaster's and Rolex Submariner's fixtures, sharing the same markings. The crown is screw-down as well, and the lugs make it easy to unscrew to adjust the date and time. Pull the crown out to one stop for the date, and two for the time. The face itself is a classy black and white affair, with Arabic numerals at the four compass points and hashmark indices for the rest. The hands are a very distinctive, masculine sword shape, again reminiscent of the Omega. Supposedly the watch is safe in water up to 200m deep, but I have never tested it that deep. It's been wet plenty of times with no issues for me, though.
The band is the same stainless steel, with a nice contrast on the links between brushed outer portions and a polished inner portion that really pops when you first get the watch. Over time, a million tiny scratches have formed on the polished section that makes it harder to distinguish between the two finishes. The clasp is a double locking fold-over, so it has a safety and push-buttons to release. This means that once you secure the watch on your wrist, it's not going anywhere until you take it off. The band is fairly comfortable for a metal band, and even resting my wrist on the band doesn't feel particularly uncomfortable. At the extreme limits of wrist flex, the crown does push into my hand uncomfortably (think push-ups). Some have speculated that the band may be too short and require you to buy an extra link, but I had to remove three or four to get mine to fit (still loosely). It is relatively simple to do at home, or you can take it to a jeweler. For minor adjustments, the clasp itself can be re-positioned.
The watch keeps time fairly well. It's a "Swiss" quartz movement, so you can expect fairly accurate time-keeping. I have had to adjust it minutely over the last two years, for the date if nothing else (no calendar means the date indicator needs adjusting every time there are less than 31 days in the month, but that's normal for analog watches). As far as durability is concerned, I've worn this watch almost every day in a wide variety of situations, including outdoor activities like hiking and canoeing, with no issues for almost two years now. A few good hits have left slight dings or scratches, but none on the Kysterna crystal.
In conclusion, if you like the look of the Rolex Submariner blended with the Omega Seamaster on a shoe-string budget, this is the watch for you. It looks good, it runs well, and it doesn't break easily (at least mine hasn't). I'm not sure what the other people on here did to their's to make it break, but mine has taken a number of good hits and still works flawlessly. For this look at this price, it's a solid watch, and it comes in a very nice box that would make a good gift.
Update: Jan 2016
A few days ago this watch was stolen out of my car when I left it there overnight after the gym. It was still keeping good time (quartz movements are generally close to flawless, anyway) and still had zero scratches on the crystal. I did not use it delicately, but you heard me right; zero crystal scratches. None. I don't know what other users did with theirs, but I took mine camping, hiking, canoeing, etc, and none. This is a good cheap watch. You're not going to fool anyone who knows better, but to the average person this has the look of a much more expensive watch in a durable, reliable package. At least that was my experience.

Great Watch for a Cheapskate Like Me
Highway99✓ Verified Purchase•August 1, 2023
If you want to skip the detail, just go to the end of the review for pros, cons, and recommendation. With that said, I am very particular about watches and a cheapskate. My previous watch was a Citizen that served me well for many years. In fact, the Citizen is still working perfectly but is worn and needed replacement. I purchased four different watches to replace the Citizen which were an Armitron, a Seiko, a Stuhrling, and another Citizen. What I found interesting is that while the Seiko and Citizen were very nice watches, their bands were very thin and just felt cheap. The watches themselves were excellent timepieces but I am in this game for looks as well. The Armitron and Stuhrling had much bigger and thicker bands but the Armitron watch overall was just not up to par. I have never had a Stuhrling before and did a lot of research and review reading. I was curious about why the MSRP of the watch and the selling price had such a vast difference but found on the Stuhrling site a very interesting explanation in the FAQ section. To make a long story short, Stuhrling has decided to be an e-retailer instead of traditional brick-and-mortar and can pass these savings along to the end user. An MSRP in my book has always been an arbitrary inflated number anyway so just compare the actual prices. You are going to pay what the manufacturer wants to you to pay in any case, no matter the MSRP or if the watch is "on sale" (another marketing gimmick that insults my intelligence). For those other reviewers that complain the watch just stopped working or had water inside, I think the crown must not have been screwed down all the way. The screw-down crown is needed for this diver-style watch. I don't ever plan to wear mine scuba diving or swimming so this is not a concern to me. Anyone paying attention will screw the crown in properly. In conclusion, this is a great watch for around $60 and if it lasts a couple of years I feel like I am way ahead. It just plain looks cool and tells time accurately.
Pros:
-Large watch face (slightly larger than a "typical watch face")
-Ronda 515 Swiss movement
-Very good build quality
-Price sensitive shoppers will appreciate style, look, and quality in this very low price range. In my opinion, this watch is a much nicer than a Seiko and Citizen that cost over $40 more.
Cons:
-Newer manufacturer with a limited history.
-Unsure of where watch was actually made. Could be Chinese but I must say this is a very well made watch for the money.
-It will be interesting to see how long the battery lasts. The typical battery life from the factory according to the manufacturer is 3.75 years.
Recommendation:
-Highly recommend if you are on a budget but want a stylish watch that looks much more expensive that it actually is. Don't hesitate to give this brand a try. Just return it if you don't like it.

review from a heavy watch user

well as I think that the only necessary piece to be worn by a man is a good watch.
I see a bit of reviews which actually they don't even know what they are talking about , and others just had bad luck with their watches and people who gives reviews without fully testing it. others just give a 5 just because looks cute, while anothers play to be expert horologists.....really
well here it goes:
the watch itself is a very good watch first the price....really affordable!!! second the watch is very well made . I picked up the watch today and went for a dip since I Ilve 5 minutes from the beach, test number one: took a dive for 38 seconds and......test passed ! is truly a waterproof piece, feels fairly heavy which means that somehow there's a sturdy construction, prone to scratch yes, the surface is very shiny I am a person that is very careful with the left hand trust me I have ruined couple of watches before and if you had used watches all the time you will develop this habit, the top crystal looks like cheap glass but can withstand regular scratches, the moving bezel moves from right to left is unidirectional. most people don't use this feat and they do play with it to the point of breaking it, unless you behave like king kong with the watch eventually will break but let me add that is very well adjusted and tight, why 4 stars I have yet more tests to make and within 6 months if it passes everything it might go to 1 star or five but for what I see seems like a good watch for the office and occassional dips.
hope this helps.
update 4-14-14.
changed the rate 4 to 5 due to the fact that all the test has been passed by the watch I do swim twice and sometimes I do scuba and for the price I bought this watch is more than excellent.....well I can't wait to get an omega seamaster to tell the difference my veredict is "is a great watch and enjoy"
