I ordered these things in 2013 and they have been flawless since. In fact, why am I giving a review 4 years later? Because I am buying another adaptor to increase to 4 ports. (I have my computers in a room far away from my wireless router and I often connect devices that have no wireless.) Looking back at this product I see numerous people talk about how these died on them...not mine. Like I said, four years and running. Setup? Super easy, just plug them in and they sync up. Also, I have used these even on power strips and they work. Solid solution for people with difficult homes, like my 1947 block home.
Much Better Than Wireless

I'd really like to give this a 5 star review, but the first package I received had one defective unit. Amazon's only option with a 3rd party seller was a refund. I had to send it back, order another, then wait for Amazon to refund me for the defective. I also now had to pay for next day shipping, because I really needed this.
That said, these units work great! Initially I set up a wireless range extender with a hidden SSID, and used the Ethernet port connected to a switch. That worked, but every few days my speed would drop to under 1 Mbps. I would reboot the range extender and all would return to normal.
The Actiontec typically gives me 3 green lights, indicating speeds over 100 Mbps. Occasionally one goes to amber, indicating 50 to 99 Mbps. That's still faster than my ISP, so no loss, and it will go back to green on it's own. I've had this running for 5 days, and have not needed to touch it, or even realize it's in place. All my equipment, including a 16 port switch, is in my office in the front of the house. Toward the rear of the house is the cable modem and router. Running an Ethernet cable through the attic and two wall fish's is not an option in this rental. Between my office and the modem is a bathroom, laundry room, and hallway. I now have a solid connection at greater speed than what my ISP can provide, so there is no loss of speed in my office. My computers, VOIP equipment, and fax are all working flawlessly.

Great at first but then had issues.

I have 6 of these devices one of which is the version with 4 ports. I liked them at first, the speed was great and streaming video o Netflix was much improved over wifi streaming. My main issue is that two of my devices stopped working possibly caused by a power surge. The 4 port device would loose connectivity form time to time and would have to be unplugged and plugged back in to reset. I switched to a MOCA device provides a much more reliable connection. I still use two of these devices but won;t invest any more in them. I will note I had these at two different houses. It worked for six months problem free at my last house. By current house which is new Constitution is where I started having issues. There might not be a correlation but it is a variable worth noting.
Outstanding. Beats running Cat6 by a long shot.

I purchased this with low to moderate expectations. I received them and I am blown away at the ease of use and functionality.
In my application I was wanting to install an out door security camera at the edge of my property. I contemplated running Cat6 in a buried application but at the last second decided to spend the $45 to test out internet over powerline..
So I decided to try the Actiontec PWR511K01 at just $45. Am glad I did !!
Received box, opened it, plugged in adapter #1, walked out to shed with camera and adapter #2 and hooked them up. Was on line with security cam with in 5 minutes of opening box. Easy peasy.
In my instance I am NOT on the same circuit as adapter #1. I am going though a typical residential circuit breaker box. In my application I tested my outside connection using a foscam camera and am getting reliable 720 video at about the 24 frame rate. However, I am NOT about to use the two way mic nor the standalone audio as they are uncompressed bit rates and exceed the capability of this adapter in my application.
Bottom line: YES, a good buy. Beats running 200ft of cat 6 in a conduit, underground or overhead. Internet speed in my application blows away wifi and 4g.
If you have a wired building that you are considering running cat5e or 6 to then consider this $45 kit as a viable alliterative.

Effective solution where wireless and wired connections are not viable options.

I have two home theater receivers and three TVs connected to my internet along with several desktop and laptop computers and blu ray players which connect wirelessly to the network. Unfortunately, the receivers and two of the TVs do not have wireless connections. Since I am renting, I can't run cable through the walls. These devices are about the only option which was available. So I now am using four of the Actiontec devices which have turned my home electrical system into a wired network.
Set up was almost as easy as plugging in a lamp. I connected one via the included CAT-5 cable to the Belkin Wireless Router and plugged it into the wall socket. I then connected another one to the TV and a third to the receiver on the other side of our apartment and plugged the Actiontec adapters into an extension cord. Within 10 or 15 seconds, a network link was established and I could update the software on the TV and Receiver, access files on my main compute and run Netflix and Pandora Radio on both TVs and receivers.
The speed seems OK, and although I have not tested it, it appears to be similar to speed of the devices on the wireless N network. The connections are solid with no connectivity problems. It is an effective solution where wireless and hard wired networks are not possible.
