Too Small for Aerogarden Harvest
Bridge It✓ Verified Purchase•March 10, 2018
These are way too small for my Aerogarden. It flops around, the top of the sponge sits an inch from the rim of the pod, and the hole is cut too deep so most sproutlings die before they grow big enough to escape the sponge.
Instead I turned them upside-down and gently laid the seeds on top of the bottom of the sponge. I had more success but sprouts from larger seeds could not take root because of the sponge being too dense.
Not only that but these sponges grow green slime (which I presume is algae) and white mold. Both grow faster than some seeds can germinate and so are choked out.
I'm disappointed but determined to make it work by treating them with plant friendly disease treatment. Fingers crossed!

Much cheaper than buying the Aerogarden seed replacements

It's much cheaper to buy your own seeds and use these growth sponges than to keep buying the replacement pack seeds that Aerogarden sells. I'm glad they sell these sponges because it makes it so much more affordable to grow your own food.
Great seed starting media

Amazing product for starting your seedlings when it's on sale for $5 or even $8. I find it a bit high at 15 but if this is something you want and you need it now then I would grab this. Unlike some other products this one holds together well and it does give a good balance between air and water. It also works well for non-AeroGarden growing. PS I am cheap, I know.

Product was overall good as they swelled nicely and fit snug in the seed starter.
The low rating is due to the package only having 45 units in it.
I understand packaging by weight and having 1-2 missing but 10% seems a bit extreme.
Only 1 had to be "fitted" to work in the seed starter which is better than the original 50 that came with it.

A definite improvement over the pre-populated seed sponges from AeroGarden!

I own an AeroGarden LED device that I bought on Amazon about two years ago, when it was on sale. I really like it and think it's fun to grow your own herbs, lettuce and even vegetables. I've had some failures using seed pods purchased from AeroGarden, and with this crop of herbs decided to try using my own seeds with these sponges. I purchased the seeds from Home Depot (Burpee seeds, nothing fancy) and used these to cultivate a new crop of Italian Herbs (Italian parsley, oregano, thyme and basil.) What a difference!
Instead of having one or two duds in my seed pod package from AeroGarden, these seeds germinated perfectly. In fact, they needed thinning since more than one seed in the sponge germinated. I was always disappointed in the Italian parsley and thyme I purchased directly from AeroGarden, but now I see I don't have to do that any longer, and my results are much better and more consistent.
It is also much less expensive! A package of Burpee Italian Herbs seeds is approximately $3.79 at Home Depot and has enough seeds for at least 3-4 crops of herbs. Add the cost of the sponges (50 of them in a pack) and you are still way ahead of the game.
Cherry tomatoes are next after my current crop of herbs is exhausted.
If you're a new AeroGrow farmer, I'd encourage you to start with AeroGarden's own prepackaged seeds to learn how to use the device. Save the plastic sponge holders after you've finished growing/transplanting your garden, and you'll then just need to purchase these sponges and your own seeds. You'll have fresh herbs, lettuce or vegetables all year round!
