Excellent halogen replacement
G. Jones✓ Verified PurchaseNovember 24, 2016
I bought 15 of these for yard lighting that included numerous glass sculptures. They were to replace exist 35w halogen fixtures. Hookup was easy and the light quality is as described. These fixtures easily provide more illumination than 35w halogen. Oddly - the entire fixture is actually cheaper than a replacement halogen bulb. The choice was therefore easy.
I bought one extra as a spare - good thing - 14 of the 15 worked right out of the box. The nonfunctional one turned out to be an easy fix (there is a small circuit board inside the housing that was poorly connected).
The housing themselves are well made and sturdy. The support bracket is a mild steel and easily bends. Not a problem in my application.
One fact - the assembly process can yield two configurations - with a low bracket or a high bracket attachment. Changing the bracket configuration requires some disassembly that almost certainly voids the warranty. The 15 that I received were assembled in a truly random fashion - about half with each configuration.
Super Bright, energy use is low

Super Bright, energy use is low.

I have a total of 6 lights attached to a stand, that I use when grilling at night. The batteries are connected to a very small 12 volt lawn mower battery, the battery will last for several nights without needing a recharge.

The only problem I had, one of the lights was manufactured with a defect. After opening the package one of the lights had a piece of something rattling around, After taking off the back panel of the light, I found a screw and the hole it was suppose to be in was not completely drilled out. I removed the screw and replace the back panel,, everything works great and no rattling!

I'm now thinking about loading my fishing boat up with them.

I'll probably buy more

I installed 3 of these on my shed, connected to a 12v deep cycle marine battery which is powered by a 100w solar panel. My charge controller indicates 0.2-0.3amps consumption per light so they're definitely not 10w. Still, they're bright and have been reliable for the last month suffering through direct sunlight and snow alike.

I also have all three hooked up to a microcontroller 4 channel relay board and made a little android app to toggle them on and off when my dogs go outside. I stress tested the heck out of the system with hundreds of on and offs in an hour without issue. I'm extremely happy for the price and they're adequate for my lighting needs. I'd say they have an effective range of about 15 feet and anything after that remains mostly dark in my yard. Thinking of getting one or two for camping needs, could easily sling a bungee behind the bracket and strap to a tree. I have an 18ah battery and another solar panel that would likely keep my camp indefinitely. These are NOT whitish at all, the light output is much more yellow than I expected. Not a problem... kind of a nice change from the blue LED solar lights I have everywhere else in my yard.

No issues connecting, I was worried I'd get a mislabeled/misshipped unit (or...3 wrong units) based on some reviews, but all were 12v, fired up instantly, and were a piece of cake to install.
Solid, but not really 10 W when used with 12 V supply. Need to use higher voltage and even then only gets to around 7 W.

Overall a solid product with an internal CL6807-based switchmode current regulator set for 0.64 A. Well constructed. The only problem (for which I deduct 1 star) is that with the LEDs used, the voltage applied should be larger than 12 V. At 12 V, the LEDs themselves receive 10.6V at 0.4A (power = 4.2 W only), and the system uses 0.4 A (supply power = 4.8 W, efficiency = 88%, not bad!). Raising the power supply to 18.4 V (a typical laptop power source) raises the values to 11.4 V at 0.61 A for the LEDs (power = 7 W) and supply current of 0.42 W (power supplied = 7.7 W, efficiency = 91%, quite good!!!).

So, if you want to use the system and get your 10W worth of light you should use an 18.4V supply (you will get 7 W which is close enough to 10 W). But if you use a 12 V supply you will get a much dimmer light.
Seems like a decent value for $9 shipped. Direct drive LED (DC powered), decent build, warm color, moderate output.

Seems like a decent value for $9 shipped.

Mine came with markings on the box indicating 80-230vAC input... CAUTION, mine was direct drive, no driver board at all, just wires straight to the LED chip. It had a Red(almost brown looking) and White wire. I opened it up and found the wires were directly soldered to the LED emitter, the Redish/brown one to the + side.

POWER- I hooked this up to my bench top power supply and set the voltage to 13volts, the emitter drew 450mA. I tried a range of 9-16 volts, it was pretty dim at 9v and reached its peak around 13v. I found a cheap switching power supply rated at 12v/550mA and wired it up, it works great. According to my measurement, this is only about 6 watts, not 10w. It doesn't seem to produce any heat during operation.

Brightness- I have a semi-calibrated light box that I feel is a pretty good estimation, I'd say mine is putting out about 175 lumens. It is a nice warm color and the flood is very wide, even, and free of artifacts. It's a nice amount of light although not exactly blinding.

BUILD- I cant say if the hardware will rust, I just got mine. The body is sturdy enough, the seams seem to be sealed well with silicone orings and the glass looks to be quite thick. I'd say for the price it is built very well.

For reference, I've attached a few pictures of the construction and two pictures of our rec-room in the pitch dark only illuminated by one of these flood lights.

I would buy more of these, I'm very pleased for $9 shipped.
