This is a perfect, large wooden track set. We already have many tracks which our children love to build extensive layouts with but always wanted more. This definitely filled that desire and now they can take up two entire rooms with a track layout. This set would be just fine on its own too, although it does not include any trains. It has all of the types of pieces that you could desire, including same-ended pieces (i.e. two "male" or "female" ends) for when you get in a jam trying to connect sections. The stabilizer system for the raised tracks works pretty well.

One of the track rise stabilizers (the orange plastic parts) was broken upon opening the box, so I contacted the company via their website and received a response very quickly and are sending replacement parts including extra pieces, unasked. I have not received them yet but was impressed enough with the customer service to post a review. The product itself deserves a review too.

This set is wonderful and a great value. The beauty of Amazon is that you can often get products that are great quality at a big discount over the most popular brands if you shop smartly. I bought this for my son who absolutely loves it. I've read some reviews that said the tracks needed to be sanded but that wasn't the case for me. I'm sure you could easily spend twice or three times as much for other tracks and the quality would be the same.

I assembled this track on a table I built and there is enough track to have four separate hills and plenty of twists and turns. There was even enough track left for my son to build on his own.

Please order this set without hesitation and know that you are getting a really nice, large track set at a great price.

It was hard to decide whether to rate this product 3 or 4 stars because although it's a fantastic set I noticed that the finish on the tracks is not as smooth as the ones from other track sets I have, and a significant number of them needed sanding, as the surfaces on those pieces were extremely rough; one even had a splinter sticking out! To make things worse, one of the switch track had the male end broken off when I opened it. I am truly surprised at all this; the quality of the tracks from my other Orbrium sets was much better, so why is this set different? The good news is that Orbrium quickly sent us a replacement switch track (and a extra one, in case one was wrong), so I am glad about that!

Aside from the quality problems I mentioned, this set has much to boast about. It comes with an extensive variety of tracks, and Orbrium's exclusive track riser stabilizers work surprisingly well at helping to keep the elevated tracks from toppling down although I will still attach velcro to each of the wooden risers for added stabilization. With the exception of the one switch track I mentioned before, all the pieces have held up well.

The quality of the tracks seems very good. Pieces fit snugly, no wood burrs, etc. Also, this is a great value for the money. Only giving it 3 stars because of the poor design of its main selling point---the stacks/bridge supports. The bottom line is that the stacks collapse if they are slightly shifted/if you apply any pressure to a train on the bridge (and yes, I set them up with the raised edges on top so the bridge piece sits in the block). My son got so frustrated with the "bridge being broke" that I almost packed it up and returned it. However, I found a rather inelegant solution. I applied the adhesive velcro used to mount foam backed photos/posters to the bottom of the elevated pieces and the tops of some of the blocks. The velcro ensures that support blacks stay connected to the bridge and so far, the bridges have not fallen down.

Wow - this train set is awesome! So many pieces that my 3-year-old is not yet able to use them all at the same time. (Actually, we covered over half the living room floor with these, and there were still more pieces!) Particularly helpful are the rising tracks and the bridge supports - you can build some very intricate structures with this set.

In terms of quality, this isn't quite as good as I've seen with Thomas wooden tracks, but it is fully compatible. A few of the track pieces are slightly thicker than others, and the curves are at a slightly different angle than other sets, so there are a few more "derailments" when my son plays with this set. He finds it a bit frustrating, but the overall size of the set and the generally good quality of the pieces more than makes up for this.

So if your child loves trains, I highly recommend this as a major expansion - it's the cheapest per-piece set I could find, and it easily provides four or five times more track pieces than one of the medium-sized Thomas sets we purchased before. Granted, there are no "extras" (or trains, for that matter), but what I really wanted my son to have was the vast expanse of tracks. We can make signs and buildings out of Legos or cardboard, but you can't substitute the tracks.
