GARBAGE!!!!
JoeG65•August 21, 2016
I bought this in 2014 just in case the slingbox I had burned out again just like the past three I bought. This is 2016 and it would'nt let me connect it unless I had the (Slingbox ID#) which is not listed anywhere on the box. So I called them and the woman on the other end told me she can't give me any help or direction to correct this unless (I could provide them with the original receipt) as proof of purchase.
I told her I bought this Slingbox from Amazon and again She repeated (I cannot provide you with any help or direction until you provide proof of purchase). Then she told me when I can do that to call back, but until then she can't spend anymore time on the phone with me and hung up.
How RUDE!!! I only wish I had recorded the phone conversation to post here!
This is after I tried using their "Help" section on their website only to have each page coming up as " Page no longer Exists"
If I wasn't a gentleman my anger about this would have been more street in describing this incident in this review.
Bottom line!!! Let the buyer beware!!!

Forced commercials and ads
S. Miller•June 28, 2015
Sling now forces you to watch commercials before they show you your video. They also force you to have banner ads around your video when watching content.
They have a full screen mode that you can enter once you are done watching their commercial, but that is generally broke as well on Windows and Mac. Simply floating your mouse over the full screen video usually makes it shrink to show more ads and the remote. In multi-desktop configs or even just swiping between desktops on a Mac, always forces the video to to exit full screen and go back to showing ads.
Sling, I have spent roughly $1000 on three Slingboxs and your mobile apps. I've read your "ad justification memo" where you state that since the web viewer is free, ads are totally justified. That logic is a bit broke since your web page is ONLY useful for paying users of your devices. Hopefully you are making enough money off the ads to make up for all the 1-star reviews, lost customers, and lost future sales of devices. It's sad to see a once-awesome company lose its soul.

I would not recommend these devices to any friends or family until Sling ...
CDC•April 25, 2015
I've been a Sling customer for 7 years now (SlingBox Pro with HD cable). A few years ago I purchased a 250 (now M1) as soon as it went on sale. I've never cared for how you have to pay for the mobile version of the app, but I did it anyways. I bought multiple versions over the years (Windows Mobile, iOS SD AND HD, Android). The hardware cost along with the mobile app cost was high, and I thought about switching to competitors, but I stayed with Sling.
Fast forward to 2015. Sling has now started putting advertisements into their desktop player. We've got multiple banner ads and they are now prepending a video ad to the start of your stream. Tack on a whole slew of bugs and I'm fed up. I would not recommend these devices to any friends or family until Sling get's their revenue model into place. I'm not sure what they are thinking, but this will no doubt have me looking to dump my equipment and purchase something else without these obtrusive ads.

Don't buy, Sling Media is cheating existing customers
A. Lien•April 9, 2015
There are some bright lights on the front. The box stays on all the time, you can't turn it off, so the lights shine all the time.
The free Windows desktop IE browser plug-in used to be great. It was ad-free and you could easily switch back to windowed mode. But they have recently, and intentionally, forced an "upgrade" which has crippled the full screen mode (can't switch back to windowed mode, the remote control sometimes doesn't pop up anymore, screen goes to sleep) so that you are now forced to watch with an ad in a window; or buy a paid App. I feel that the company is cheating their existing customers.
The paid iPhone SlingPlayer app is usable. I have not updated to the very latest version though, out of fear that they have crippled it or added advertisements.
The paid Windows Store SlingPlayer app is horrible (check out the rating and reviews in the Windows Store.) They don't seem to be improving it at all either.
They don't have very good support. The online chat personnel are not very polite and there are online forums but nobody from the company even monitors them.

Buyer beware...Slingplayer for desktop now comes with ads!!!
Sparhawk•March 22, 2015
Beware everyone. Slingplayer for desktop now pushed unwanted ads. Slingbox made a terrible decision. This will be my last Sling product.
