Easy to assemble but get an adapter for a 20lb tank
Capt'n George✓ Verified PurchaseNovember 6, 2017
In spite of some reviewers complaints about assembly I found that easy to do. Probably took less than 15 minutes. I especially liked the fact that nearly all of the screws were already screwed into the various parts, so no trying to figure out which ones went where. True I did have to unscrew them, fit the pieces together and then put the screws back in but I still liked what they did.

Between reviewers complaining about either not enough heat or going through the 1lb tanks too quickly, I was a bit confused... If the unit gave off more heat, wouldn't it go through a tank even faster? In any case I have an adapter hose so I just hooked it up to a 20lb tank. The unit has a convenient notch in the base for the hose to go through, so it will sit level on my patio table. If you do go this route I would suggest that when shutting down the heater you first shut off the gas at the tank and wait until the burner goes out before turning the heater's control knob to the off position.

One thing that they could have done better with is the heat reflector on the top of the unit. The bottom of it is brushed (dull) metal. This cuts down on the amount of heat that is reflected outward. Measuring the top surface temperature versus a full sized outdoor heater shows a 40 to 50 degree (f) hotter surface on the table top unit. It would also be nice if the reflector was a bit larger. I think this would help the heat radiate out further. One modification that I did is replace one of the top posts with a threaded rod and some nuts so that I could angle the reflector to one side. This helps direct the heat when there's no one on the other side of the table.

Now that the weather is getting colder I started having issues with the pilot light going out when I let go of the gas control knob. I found out quite by accident that if I let go very s-l-o-w-l-y it is much more likely to stay lit and allow me to turn the gas all the way up without going out.
Works for my needs.

I was a little worried at first since there's a lot of people on here complaining that it barely gives out anything. I live in Central Florida and figured I would give it a shot, you can always return it right. Well I'm happy to say it does give off quite a bit of heat. At least to the point where I can sit 3 feet from it in 50 degree weather with a t-shirt and shorts on. I bought this to use on my patio and it works great for that. My patio blocks most of the wind but this would be a problem if not. It also takes about 5 to 10 minutes to start getting really hot but is really conservative on gas with the larger tanks. It doesn't put off very much heat beyond a few feet but that's what the larger ones are for. The larger one just would not fit on my patio due too height.
After 2 or 3 uses, it's just Scrap Metal

Stopped working after two or three uses - thermocouple-valve failed, and is not user-repairable. Never really provided enough warmth anyway, unless you sit right under it, then it's too hot.
Assembly was not mind numbingly painful which was a pleasant change

Assembly was not mind numbingly painful which was a pleasant change. I had it assembled for over a week before the weather in Chicago cooperated enough to try it. It's a bitch to light. Very hard to tell when it even has ignited so I had to fiddle with it for quite a while before I succeeded. It gives off very little heat when set to high and I honestly don't see much difference between the low and high setting. You have to be sitting on top of it to feel any heat so the advertised range of 8 sq ft is an exaggeration unless perhaps you live in the Florida Keys where temps in the 80's leave you feeling a wee bit chilled. On a 50° night in Chicago --- not so much. The gas tank will only last about an hour on high. My little biofuel fireplace that I schlepped from CA is about as effective from a heat perspective and the fuel will last for a few hours. I would return it had I kept the box but unfortunately, Chicago city spaces are not empty box storage appropriate.

This was delivered Oct. 6, 2015, and didn't really work correctly, but after a few tries, my husband got it to work. Yesterday was the 1st time it worked perfectly, and today it doesn't work at all! The igniter won't light and there is no gas going thru to light it with a match. I did buy the insurance, now I have to go through the hassle of trying to get it replaced. I first looked on the site I got it and it says no refunds/exchanges. Uggh!!
