Testing with the acids is difficult because I showed my test to three different people and asked them what color it was. I got three different answers. If you say the color is dark red, in whose opinion is that and what exactly is dark red. Could it be reddish brown? You need to have a color comparison chart with it to illustrate what you mean by a particular color.

unclear directions

So I got this kit, which is small and cheap looking. The directions were very unclear. Started with items I knew to be 18K gold and sterling silver. Didn't give a clear reading. Tried in on items I knew to be cheap costume jewelry. Same readings. I was really hoping to avoid having to take my heirloom jewelry to an expert, but I guess now I'll have to spend the money and do just that.
