Easy to install
FredSeptember 27, 2018
Really simple to install. I can't say if it's good or bad until lightning strikes.

With all these things you never know until you need it to work. It's a leap of faith.
Great Surge Protector. Can be used for whole house too!
SolMan636September 19, 2017
A few weeks ago a lightning strike near my house traveled up the grid and damaged my solar inverter. It got past the installed Delta lightning arrestor which did not protect the inverter and also showed no signs of having been activated. I had to replace the expensive inverter. However, the question remained of how to protect the new inverter from surges in the future in our lightning prone area here. I reviewed many whole house surge protectors on Amazon and also information on Midnite Solar's SPD which I learned can actually be wired to protect the whole house as well as the breaker for the inverter circuit at the same time. There is a youtube short video in which the engineers at Midnite Solar demonstrate the lab tests of both the Delta SPD and their own model which is clearly superior. Midnite Solar's tech rep answered my email pronto to clear up a question I had on connectors that I had. I highly recommend this product, and with the 5 year warranty they will repair your unit if damage etc. Instructions on MidNite's web site. Notice in picture how I used crimped ring connectors and wired the black and red leads o the L1 and L2 bars in the main breaker with green going to ground. Some suggest using a separate breaker, but I didn't have room. If the inspector allowed the original SPD from installers with the wires jammed in with hot wires in the breaker then he shouldn't object to this.

Just what I wanted, easy to install
This easy to install if using bus bar connections

Comes with lock-nut and gasket. This easy to install if using bus bar connections. Just land black on 120v L1 and Red on L2 and green to ground bus. If installed in a load center it may require some copper tap lugs or use conical spring connectors ( AKA Wire nuts) and a jumper back to the breaker terminals on a 2-pole breaker. Protects a 240v AC System in this configuation. Clamps transient voltage at around 600-800 volts. Most electronics are Hi-pot tested to 2000v so it should protect up to a direct lightning strike, in which case you should call your insurance company..because nothing will provide protection from a direct hit.
