I did a lot of research before settling on this cargo carrier for my Toyota FJ. I wanted something that could add to my cargo capacity, was well made, and could also double as a bike carrier. Along with the Bike Mounting Adapter, this meets the requirements. Sure, I could have spent less on an inferior model, but this thing seems like it will last for a very long time. The included anti-rattle pin ensures that it doesn't bang around while going down the road. I have had 3 full sized bikes on the ROLA and while tight, it works perfectly well. The first time fitting them took a while e.g. (putting the bikes up there, measuring, adding the plates for the rear straps, installing the fork mounting kit) but once that was done, it is now very quick to put the bikes up and remove them. The folding feature is nice when you don't have someone around to help remove the carrier. Could it be better? Yes, it could be made from aluminum or carbon fiber, but then it would cost twice as much or more. For the money, it can't be beat.

Well built carrier other than the completely unnecessary plastic trim pieces noted by other reviewers. Unfortunately mine arrived missing the (4) very necessary washers used to bolt the basket to the hitch carrier. Cheap to purchase at my local hardware store, but disappointing quality control for such an expensive product from a known brand.

This is a great cargo carrier. Let me get that out of the way. It is a little expensive for what you get and let me explain why.

The LED light kit has no instructions included or online. It would be nice to see a diagram instead of rola assuming install is self evident. It is a easy to install light kit but you have to decide how to run the wires and I do not want to install somewhere they are not supposed to be. Also the wiring lengths are to short. It would be nice to have the y-adapter after the basket or where the two baskets come together or where the wiring "t's.

Instead I am left with a big unsightly plug and need better directions. There are no holes cut in the plastic covers for the lights. It is like they were an after thought or Rola thought no one would ever buy the light kit.

For a $300 cargo hauler I would expect better documentation and not so much freaking plastic.

All that said I still give it 5 stars. I like the folding mechanism. It is solid on the back of the car. The light kit is easy to install.

I really like the way this carrier looks and that there is a easy pull handle for flipping the carrier up. I would recommend it to anyone needing a flip up carrier.

I asked a question if the unit comes with reflectors (not the light kit) for the oval holes in the back. I noticed on the manufacturers website that the photos had reflectors in the oval holes. The image on Amazon did not show the reflectors. Most of the answers I got was about the optional light kit not coming with it. But, I was asking about the reflectors. I ordered the unit and when I received it, I got my answer. Yes, it comes with two reflectors that snap in the oval holes. As I am using this for the back of my fifth wheel and do not have a light plug on the hitch, this works great for me. I wanted some kind of reflectors, but did not wish to spend the $49 on a light kit.

The only thing I did not like about it was the plastic panels. In the image, it looks like it might be silver or brushed aluminum panels. The are plastic. They are thick plastic and looks tough, but I would have thought for the price that the panel would be metal.

The assembly was easy and took maybe 10 to 15 minutes with a crescent wrench, socket set, and a philip screwdriver.

Oh yay, one more thing. It did not have any instructions with it. Their website has all the institutions for download.

All and all it seems to be a tough carrier, despite the plastic panels, and I would defiantly recommend it.

Easy to assembly. I did buy the optional light kit and would recommend buying the kit. Because the hitch pin is threaded you are limited in getting a locking pin. You will need to purchase a locking threaded hitch pin. Someone else had suggested the softride model #25219 "Tightening Hitch Pin with Lock" and I wasn't sure if it would fit. I just tried it and the threads in the Rola Dart matches the threads of the softride locking hitch pin. So, if you are wanting to lock it the softride 25219 works.
