Lovin' it!

I love this hitch and give it 5 stars. Sturdy, well constructed, easy to lower and raise with bikes attached. DO NOT buy a hitch lock if you plan on using the stabilizing bolt they provide to prevent wobbling. I used their bolt and added a RETECK 304 Stainless Steel Hitch Tightener Anti-Rattle Stabilizer Rust-Free Heavy Duty Lock Down to really cinch it tight and it is extremely sturdy while driving with two bikes attached. I bought a Master U-lock that was able to secure the rack to the hitch to prevent theft. It would have to be one strong and determined thief to get that thing unbolted so if you plan to put it on and take it off a lot....you might want to think otherwise. I may take it off during the rainy season but right now I just leave it on since it lowers so easily in order to use the hatch on my Toyota ForeRunner.
Wish instructions were better.. For a 2" hitch

Wish instructions were better..

For a 2" hitch, use the longer wobble bolt. How do you know if it is a wobble bolt? It has a little thicker piece at the end .. the other wobble bolt is for the 1 3/4 hitch. The other included bolts don't have the thicker piece at the end ..

Great value rack

Easy to use, easy to mount. The rack mounts firmly in the receiver (no wobble). I'm using a 1-1/4" receiver, but the rack comes with an adapter for 2" receivers.

Cons:
- When not carrying a bicycle, with the carrying arms folded down, the arms tend to rattle when driving. I was able to solve the problem by using a bungee cord to keep the arms from rattling. I simply wrapped the bungee around the arm-ends and one side of the center post, which is enough to hold the arms in place.
- Security. There are two places where a simple ratchet wrench is all that is needed to take the bikes, rack and all. The weakest link with this rack (perhaps all hitch-mount racks?) is the hitch-mount itself. The included hitch-pin requires a wrench, which is better than a pin alone. Also, the elbow that allows the hitch to pivot (for opening a hatchback or pickup bed) could be removed with a wrench. As a further deterrent, I use a long cable to secure the bikes and rack to my hitch bar. Unfortunately a cable is not much of a deterrent, but I think it's better than nothing.
sturdy bike carrier
PiobaireachdMay 15, 2017
This is a really well designed, sturdy bike carrier. When it arrived I discovered that the "no wobble" bolt was too short for my particular hitch receiver. The shoulder of the bolt wasn't coming in contract with the carrier tongue. I emailed the company and they shipped me a longer bolt via priority mail. No wobble whatsoever. I highly recommend this model and Allen Sports.
Nice unit needed a few mods ignore other reviewers- idiots!

I really wanted a Yakima light weight aluminum at 18 pounds but costs $350 at REI. Needed a better price so bought this Allen all steel one at 23 lbs. I tell you there is so much bad information on Amazon Allen reviews as well as hitch adapter reviews I want to gag. Most of the sizing information you read is all wrong conceptually. The wobble people complain about is normal. Hitch Glove fits are not practical with trailer hitches and they are not designed that way, think about it. A trailer needs extra space to guide home and engaget and its so massive, wobble is never noticed. The 5/8" hitch pin requires a 11/16" hole. I know! I purchased a hitch adapter and a drill bit enlarged the 1/2" hole.
TRICK is to use a MaxxHaul 70033 2" to 1-1/4 Hitch Adaptor, took off the Allen 2" aluminum adapter and then drilled the 1/2" hole larger to fit a 5/8" hitch pin on both the Allen and the Maxxhaul side making way more universal and easy to deal with. The Allen part is 1/8" steel way beefy enough for a couple of bikes. I would have given a 5 stars, but I think Allen could do a way better design on their hitch adapter, they could have an option to do what I did. If you don't like any wobble simply buy the anti wobble hitch clamps sold on Amazon. BE SURE to engage rack flip down red lever completely when returning to locked position, it is a tight fit and seems tight even when it is not fully engaged in slot.
