If you need a GREAT caliper but don't want to spend 200 dollars, get this . . .
KG•November 25, 2017
Operated very smooth out of the box and received the right unit labeled "Anytime tools, shockproof".It came with its own carrying case and cutout.I compared it to a Mitutoyo digital caliper and measured .030",.050", and .070" sheet metal.Mine was a thousandth of an inch off so very good for a 30 dollar caliper.I expect this to last for a long time with proper care and wont have to worry about batteries :).
Good calipers for reloading / everyday use
FGOrr•October 27, 2017
So far so good. I plan on using these for reloading and find my digital calipers frusturating to use as the distance flucuates with pressure on the turning dial, not much but enough that I dont like them and I'm always concerned about the batteries in them. In any case, I set these up and they seem to much easier to read. Although slightly less accurate, I presume, being manual instead of digital they are well within acceptable tolerances. Since I've not used these extensively yet I did not give 5 stars but my feeling is that they will be and I'll be updating my review.
These are great, especially at the price
Customer•October 6, 2017
These are great, especially at the price. I had a much more expensive dial caliper and in doing some measurements around 2.19 inches I found that the dial reading didn't correspond with the markings on the slide at all!! Sure enough, it was way off! I've had that one for a couple years and they've been safely stored in a wood instrument chest, and now I have to question every thing I've used them for!! I give those "old" ones the same grade as the first name in the product name! Hint! I found these from Anytime Tools were spot on. Great product, great quality feel, great price. I'm going to get a second one for my shop toolbox.
Inconsistent Zero
Alan•February 14, 2017
I'm not sure how this gets such good ratings unless I got a bad one. The quality seems fine but I can't get a consistent zero - it varies by 0.020". If I was OK with that kind of accuracy I would use a ruler. It uses the usual mechanism to adjust the zero - a set screw that allows the dial to rotate. It seems like the design is fundamentally flawed since the inch dial and the metric dial spin at different rates, there is no way to get them to sync at zero even if the zero was consistent - you could only zero it for one or the other, not both unless they actually were in sync when the caliper was at zero. I already had a digital caliper but don't like how fast it goes through batteries. I have a manual dial caliper that reads in inches only, and that one is flawless. After the failure of this product, I decided to purchase this 150 mm Metric Dial Calipers Accurate to 0.02 mm per 150 mm Hardened Stainless Steel for Inside, Outside, Step and Depth Measurements MDC-6 and it works much better for my purposes.
Accurate and Well Made
woodworker•February 3, 2017
Years ago I bought a plastic dial caliper to use in my woodworking shop, it really is only meant to measure hundredths of an inch, not thousandths. In a move to up my game with more accurate jigs, I decided to get a better caliper and chose this one primarily because it included metric measurements. I was impressed by the feel of this tool, it seems to be well made. I had to compare it to what I had been using, and while the plastic caliper was generally accurate this gives more information and more consistent readings. The red needle keeps track of millimeters and makes one revolution for every two millimeters. I will say if you want to use this for much metric measuring that there may be a better caliper out there for you, because the imperial readings are clearly the more important ones, but both scales are easily read. I checked the consistency of the different measurements and found that outside, inside and depth all measured the same, and found my old caliper didn't measure depths accurately. It is also nice to have a case to store it in. If you're looking for an affordable and accurate caliper then I can recommend this one.
