Pros:
I like the foam, it makes it easy to apply. This is also the only brand I could find the color I wanted. I was looking for a warm black brown. Not a red black, not an ash black. I just wanted like a nice melted chocolate color only really dark. Idk why that was so hard to find. Because of that I will be using this brand again since the 3N is exactly what I wanted for color.... but....
Cons:
I bought 2 boxes the first time to color my whole head (my hair comes down just passed my shoulder blades), I really only needed one box. My hair started out roughly a level 4-5 split, 5 towards the ends, 4ish towards the roots. The first time I colored it, I had to leave it on for roughly 50 minutes (20 minutes passed the max amount) to achieve roughly color on the box. After about 2-3 weeks (washing about once per 3 days), that color had faded enough that you couldnt even tell my roots from the dyed area, and the ends were even lighter.
I just redid my whole head (again used only one box), and this time I did achive the dark color I wanted, but we will see how well it lasts.
Also during the first color, since I bought too much and had already mixed up the second box, my mom used up what was left to dye her roots (he hair is very close in color; she uses Loreal Excellence 4 Dark Brown). The John Frieda had awful grey covereage, and what it did cover had faded within juat 3 weeks. With the Loreal she has never experienced this.

Good Job John Frieda! (if you follow up with other JF products)

This review is for John Frieda Precision Foam Colour, Dark Red Brown 4R
I really love this hair color. I give it 4 stars because for me, I have to use other products to keep it going for 4+ weeks.
But I find John Frieda has created a line of products that complement the hair color line very well.
Application is very easy. It's not as messy, strong in fumes, or causes post-color damage as much as other brands/products.
When I order from Amazon I never get a box with the Protect & Seal post color treatment. I'm not sure if they offer it anymore either. But I did like having it when it was included in the past. I'm not sure if the picture is accurate which shows it's included.
The sealant It's not something you can buy separately either. When I did get it from a local pharmacy and it was included in the box I thought it actually worked for extending the life of the coloring a 3-4 days out.
Here are some tips I find help keep the color and hue going regardless of having that protect and seal bottle. YMMV
1) Don't wash your hair everyday if you can avoid it. I wash my hair maybe twice a week. (a quick run through with water on non-shampoo days still has a chance of removing color but is less harsh than shampooing)
2) Use the John Frieda Radiant Red Colour Protecting Shampoo. It will not strip out the color as much as other shampoos.
3) Use the John Frieda Colour Refreshing Gloss, Cool Red and use it after a shampoo/condition on the roots areas. I have gray coming in. The original dye job covers the grays but the color will not last on the gray/new past 2 weeks if I do not follow up with this gloss. This gloss actually works. YMMV
I don't usually use conditioner because I'm just going to use other hair products that make my hair manageable after washing. Maybe once a week I'll condition. When I do i don't see any reason to stick with the JF red color conditioner. I use the out of box or whatever I like.
Doing this I was able to extend the life of my color for at least 5 weeks. Maybe 6. Sure the red was lighter, but not copper and the grays blended in decently so that I didn't have to use a touch up or resort to dying my hair every 3 weeks like you would with a lot of other red hair color brands.
If I don't follow what I listed above, after two weeks this hair color shows my grays coming in and turns that coppery tone at the roots. Blah.
So.. good job John Frieda. However I wish I could buy this color ANYWHERE locally! I seem to have to order it online (No Rite-Aid, Target, CVS, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Ulta, Sally Hansen near me seems to carry it!!! And its very rare to see the Color Refresher and Shampoo from them as well all in the same store.
Maybe one day I'll update with week by week pics

BEST HAIR COLOR I’ve used 7+ years, Love It,
PinkboutIt✓ Verified Purchase•November 1, 2017
Been using this for over 7 years and can no longer find It at WM, CVS, Target, sooo luckily I can buy on here, It's the only box hair color that works for ME, It's easy to apply, the color doesn't fade on me, I use 5n, doesn't fade on me, color stays TRUE, unlike others I've used before this the color would fade, turn reddish on me, THIS works PERFECT on me, I've used 4n when I wanna go little darker time to time but 98% Im 5n, I'm going to buy many to stock up lol I'm afraid they'll completely stop selling, I just hate when I find something that works on me they stop selling at stores, Thank goodness for Amazon ðŸ‘ðŸ¼ðŸ‘ðŸ¼ðŸ‘ðŸ¼ðŸ'‹ðŸ½
Perfect home dye!

Wanted to darken my hair a bit for fall. This was the easiest hair dye to use. I have been using L'Oreal for close to a decade but wanted to try the foam. I bought two boxes of the 6.5 PBN because my hair is pretty long (mid back) but only ended up using one. It foams going on but no matter how much massaging or extra you add it never looks like what it shows in the instructions. Instructions say to start timing after you've done your whole head but I timed from when I finished applying in the front because my hair soaks up dye so fast. Turned out exactly like the color shows on the box. Hopefully it doesn't fade too quickly!
Great hair color

I most recently purchased the Dark chocolate hair color and I really like it. It has more red tones than expected but all in all a great color. I've also tried natural dark brown and natural medium brown. The natural dark brown I like a lot but it is pretty dark when first colored... I prefer this color more a couple of days or a week after colored when it's a little less dark. I wasn't a fan of the natural medium brown.. it didn't seem to last as long as usual and hold its color. It turned to a copper color which I wasn't a fan of and the color seemed to fade faster than the others.
