Don't Let Things Dangle!
Allan M. Lees✓ Verified Purchase•May 28, 2018
If you go hiking you should have at least a day pack with essentials - things do go awry and unless you have the basics you may end up wishing that someone would hurry up and come and rescue you. But you may want to augment the pack with things like a Camelbak bladder so you don't have to stop and pull out a canteen every time you want a sip of water. You may have other items you want ready at hand. But all external dangly things present a hazard if the wind picks up, and they can get entangled if you're moving through undergrowth, and they can fall off if they catch on something.
The solution: secure these dangly bits of kit with tethers. This will keep the hose etc. nice and close to the pack or strap while being easy to move when you need it.

My finger hurts

So five days in I'm using it to get into my house and I'm holding it in both of my hands. The price between the keys and rope breaks free and slaps my hand. It hurt. Now when ever I use it there's a 10% chance it will come out. Absalute trash.
but the retractable cable/spring isn't strong enough to keep the keys from "swinging" or acting like a yo-yo

While it is built strong, but the retractable cable/spring isn't strong enough to keep the keys from "swinging" or acting like a yo-yo. I used to keep it on my back pack and I had to remove it because I was afraid it would hook onto something. Definitely, not for tactical applications.

I use this as a tether for my firesteel, to make sure that I do not lose it in the woods. 24" is plenty with this on my belt. I have lost plenty of firesteels, but with a couple of these, I have my primary on my belt and a backup in my pack.
I have been using these tethers of different configurations from T-Reign, for about 5 years now. They are on pocket knives, larger ones for point and shoot cameras while riding a motorcycle or hiking, firesteels, ID, and a couple of other items. They have been durable for my purposes.

this was a piece of JUNK,......lasted one week before the string would no longer recoil, pulled it out one morning and it hung to my knees, and stayed there...would not refer this to anyone, and just to make it clear I only had 4 keys on it so it's not like it was a janitor set or anything, didn't even want to waste my time returning it , just fiquired I would warn others........at the very least
