These crutches run "tall"! Be aware!
Jim✓ Verified Purchase•January 25, 2018
After trying out these crutches after they were delivered today, I now understand some of the complaints. I'm a normally proportioned 6-footer and have been using older borrowed tall versions of these Hugo crutches which I had to set at the 5' 11" setting in order to use them. The new Hugo crutches that arrived today look identical to the borrowed ones except that they are one inch taller at their lowest (5' 10") setting than the older borrowed Hugo crutches are at their lowest (5' 10") setting.
So ... while I am an even 6' tall, I have to use these new Hugo crutches at their lowest 5' 10" setting. Be careful. If you are 5' 11" or 5' 10" tall, you may need the "medium" version of these crutches instead of the "tall" version assuming that the medium version is similarly improperly sized.

Good crutches w/ one caveat

Got these as a replacement for some older crutches. They are pretty good for the price, but the grips may need to be addressed based on preference. The ones that came with did not work out well for me and was replaced in short order.
Pros:
- Lightweight and easy to maneuver around, pretty sturdy
- Easy to adjust overall height of crutches & hand grips
- Feet have great grip, even in damp conditions (although don't risk it too much!)
- Well priced for what you get
Cons:
- Gel grips: TOO soft to get a solid, confident grip for me; a little undersized for frame - always tightening down the nut, leading to creaking and groaning under my weight (over 200 lbs); replacing these with slightly longer grips with harder foam solved these problems for me
- Underarm padding is adequate at best, but remember, if crutches are being used properly, these should NOT be touching your armpits (but let's be honest, sometimes you want to after using your arms all day)

Functionality and Grip Satisfactory, Comfort and Padding Mediocre

I recently sprained my ankle pretty badly due to tripping on a pothole while crossing the street. I had to avoid a car from clipping me when he recklessly sped through a crosswalk that had no light indications or Stop sign. Curse you, California, for your ridiculously high taxes yet crappy road conditions! Curse you, reckless drivers! I had to walk with crutches for about three weeks before I could really start limping my way around with a boot. Thank you, Amazon, for Prime Two-day shipping, so I could receive these crutches as soon as possible.
These Hugo Mobility Lightweight Aluminum Crutches do the job. They are perfectly functional and are adjustable, although comfort leaves something to be desired. The crutches include the metal notches that allow you to customize the crutches to your height. The hand grip and armpit pad are rubberized, and you can adjust the hand grip to your preference as well using the metal turn bolts. The whole aluminum build keeps the crutches lightweight and east to maneuver. The bottom feet cups do a decent job providing traction when you're using them. I had no issues with slipping or sliding. The price is reasonable for the quality you get.
The only qualm I have is the comfort level of the armpit pads. (I don't mind the rubberized hand grips.) They're pretty hard and feel uncomfortable when I put weight on it. Like most people, I had to manually pad them myself using a cotton towel and some twist ties. I wish these crutches come better padded, but I guess with the inexpensive price point, beggars can't be choosers.

Basic and Economical

I recently had to have ankle surgery. My surgeon let me know in advance what equipment I would need and in the long run purchasing crutches before the procedure saves money. These are basic, light-weight crutches that perform as expected and they are much cheaper than purchasing from the Surgical Center.
The crutches are easy to adjust to the height you need. I'm 5'7'', weigh 179 lbs., and purchased the medium crutches. The 5'8" setting is more comfortable and works best for me.
The pads underneath the arms try to come off at times. They seem to hand onto certain types of material.
Before using the crutches (and periodically while using them) make sure the hand hold screws are tight. I walked on the crutches for a couple of days before I saw a metal washer laying on the floor by the crutches. The washer and fastener had worked loose and fell off the crutch. Luckily it didn't happen while I was walking with them but it's not uncommon for screws to work loose and this could have happened during use or shipping and is not a reflection on the quality of the crutches.
So far these are holding up well. Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Highly Superior To Other Crutches Because of The Stickiness

Because of a leg amputation crutches are a very important part of my life. I walk with them with my Prosthetic leg many times each day. I have owned the Hugo Aluminum Crutches for several months and find these crutches to be far superior to the others I have owned. They are high quality and very well constructed. But what really differentiates these from the others is the stickiness of the underarm pads, the hand grips, and especially the crutch tips. If you've ever experienced crutches slipping out from under you on a slippery surface you will appreciate these. They are so secure under my arms and in my hands. And they have never slipped out from underneath me. I am so happy with these and highly recommend them to anyone wanting to walk more securely with crutches.
