Great!

I've owned this little axe now for probably close to ten years now, purchased from HD. Primarily used for camping in the warmer months and thrown in the trunk for winter emergencies. I like it, it feels great in the hand and the handle/head is still as tight as it was new. Near the head the handle material is a bit rubbery, and from various slips and mis-aimed swings, this thing has really taken some abuse. The rubber in this area is really torn up, but absolutely no signs of structural issues.
Edge is okay, this really only shines for delimbing, splitting dry logs, making kindling, or maybe as a beater hacking some roots on a stump you're pulling. Handles all of these with no issues. Trying to split harder or more green woods, just not up to the task, and honestly shouldn't be expected to be. Glad to see its still only $20 or so. Highly reccomend for an all-around casual camp axe.
Steel is on the softer side, which to be honest just means its easier to sharpen. I only use it a weekend at a time so not a big deal to throw it on the belt sander with 1200 grit and be back to way sharper than it needs to be.

Great product.
Look elsewhere for a camp axe!

The blade did not come very sharp, and it doesn't hold an edge for very long. At the price point, I can live with that. The top (just below the axe head) black rubberized protector is the biggest problem with this axe. It will break completely off if you miss hit too often. Once it's off, it's very hard to fix it due to the angle of that rubber section. It becomes almost impossible to fill in the gap left by the destruction of that piece. I have one of the one-piece yellow plastic handled axe that Ludell used to/also makes, and I like that one much more. This one has been hanging on my wall without being used for quite some time. Look elsewhere for a camp axe.

I have no need for an Axe like this- I don't camp. On rare occasion I'm in the country with wood to chop I have some full sized axes. But man, I love this little guy, I keep it near where I sleep. You never know when you may need an axe in the middle of the night.
