Still holding its shape nearly 4 years later

My gym has a bunch of foam rollers lying around and the only one in decent shape still is one of these high density black ones. So when I was looking for one to help stretch my IT band in the morning this was the one I went for and I couldn't be happier! This thing is pretty solid, but that's exactly what you want for IT band stretching. If you're just starting out it might hurt more than a softer one but I would definitely stick with it because as you keep stretching you will end up needing something harder liker this. I've been using it 3-4x per week for the last 4 years (wouldn't call it "heavy use"), but it still holds its shape nicely
This is so great! I had a spinal chord injury years ago

This is so great ! I had a spinal chord injury years ago, and as I age, it gets worse. My muscles tighten, my legs become stiff, and it's difficult for me to do daily activities. Believe it or not, this foam roller does wonders! I use it morning and night, and I immediately feel better overall. I can walk without stiffness, my back feels so much better and I can stand up straight. The roller is firm, but it's better for me, as it helps breaking loose the knots and (fascia), all over my body. I also purchased the 3 massage balls, which does wonders. Shipping was fast and product packaged wel.
Roll out those tight muscles

First, I don't recommend getting the 12-inch size. Yes, it's the least-expensive option, but if you really want to be able to manipulate it to get right to the right muscles, opt for at least the 18-inch size. If I bought it again, I'd get the 36-inch, without question. However, it does work well. I mostly use to roll out the muscles of my outer thighs, because those tend to hurt more than anywhere else on my body. This is the hardest roller you can buy (at least from my experience), so expect some pain when you're rolling. If you want less pain, choose a different color. I believe pink has far less density and is better for a beginner. You can also use this for exercises, like crunches, behind your back, but it's a bit too slippery for that for me.
Quality below average

If you are looking for a solid foam roller, this isn't it. I run four times a week, swim long distance and take yoga classes. Despite the stretching in yoga, I wanted to be able to roll out my back and legs at home before bed. I've used this roller three times since I received it this week. The material is not dense like the rollers I use at the Y and I can feel it compress. I weigh 143 pounds which is well below the max load capacity. I ordered the 18" size and do wish I had ordered the 36". I will continue to use this roller until it wears out completely and then I will order a longer roller from a different company.
Great Price, Worthwhile Quality

In my opinion, the 18" long rollers are the best size. 12 inches is too short for rolling the back well, and even when doing the legs it's easy enough to be having to shift around as you track to one edge to the other. I think longer than 18" is just wasted length, unless you want to roll both your inside arm and leg adductors at the same time, in which case you're probably not spending enough attention on either anyway. BUT, you can cut the longer ones in half to have two decent sized ones if you don't care about looks. Slice 'em with a really fine toothed saw or just a sharp knife, then seal with a match or lighter, and you won't have pieces falling off.
To this particular product, it was shipped fast and as described. It's appropriately dense and only leaves some temporary rounded "dents" if you stand on them or something, but they pop back out within an hour. I would say even doing that doesn't ruin its integrity or usefulness unless you were just balancing on it all the time.
