Great with One Major Flaw

Great helmet with one major, but fixable, flaw. You absolutely need to tape down the button on the left side of the mask which is used to change the shade as it has no detents and will change the shade value every time you snap down the helmet. This is a design flaw that should be changed. Other than that it's a great mask and I've had Speedglas and Optrel helmets that cost ten times as much.

I have always been very leery of automatic electronic shades for welding but the old-school hoods are becoming obsolete. My biggest fear is striking off an arc and the electronics fails in the shade. But with so many in use, they must be OK. This hood is very comfortable and easy to setup. The shade covers are removable for cleaning and easy to remove and replace.
I couldn't be happier with my price and performance.

I'm a brand new welder so honestly I'm not in a position to compare equipment. This is my first helmet. So far I've used it once and it works great. The autodarkening works perfectly and for using a gasless flux welder the tint was perfect as well. The helmet itself is not made of metal but of vinyl plastic that is very tough but is flexible, this also makes it very light weight. The adjustable strap and headband worked well to adjust to my head and the helmet stays up once you adjust the knobs to the right tightness. Overall I couldn't be happier with my price and performance.

Although auto-darkening helmets have been out for years, I had always put off buying one due to price. So when I saw the price of this helmet wouldn't break my budget I thought I'd give it a shot.
I read the manual then chose middle-of-the-road settings yet I was still a bit hesitant to try it... so I just looked toward the sun and when I saw how quickly it darkened, I was ready to go. And to say the least, I was very pleasantly surprised how well it worked, and further, how much my welding improved.

Switch for grinding mode and switch for shade 5 to nine are especially helpful and not found on most cheaper hoods. My first lasted over a year of severe professional use. So I ordered another. I actually think it may be just the battery but haven't taken time to check it.
