I will lead this off with a note that Amazon did try to replace this item with another, but it inevitably fell flat just as my original purchase did.

I had purchased one of these Leap pens years ago as a gift and the child loved it so when it came time for my child to use one I didn't think twice and ordered it. My son was very excited when it arrived so that he could begin reading, so I promptly charged it and we waited til the morning. When I took the pen off the charger it was not charged, bummer, but I thought, hey let's just leave it a little longer. Not too long after I plugged it back in to charger I heard a little jingle from the other room; it was murmuring something about the LeapReader. Yay! It must be charged. When my son came in from playing, we took it off the charger and...dud. No charge. Nothing. I contacted Amazon for a refund and they offered a replacement, which I was OK with. I mailed back my original purchase and the new LeapReader arrived promptly. I quickly unpackaged it and plugged it in to charge, and waited overnight just to get it nice and juiced so that we would be ready for reading. The next day, we busted out the LeapReader books (which I ordered separately, and cannot return since there is nothing wrong with them) and..surprise...NO CHARGE! Frustration doesn't even begin to describe my feelings and my son's. Two brand new pens, and neither of them will hold a charge!! Needless to say, the item went back, with no replacement sent, and my money refunded to me. Do not buy this product, it will not work.

Super annoyed right now. Bought the LeapReader, but the application won't install onto my MacBook Pro. Called the leapfrog help desk, and they told me that they are aware of the issue and that their technology team is working to resolve it. She told me to try again tomorrow. How much you want to bet it doesn't work tomorrow. I have a feeling I'll be sending the product back:(

Both my 5.5 year old and 2 year old love this! It's great they are not on any digital devices looking at a screen swiping away. This is actually getting both of them very interested in reading and books in general. I couldn't be happier! I really wish they weren't discontinuing this... I wanted to get more books to go with this. Hope they will come out with a similar or better reading assisting toy because all of my friends that saw what my children were reading with they were all amazed by it and said that they are getting one for their children!

I bought this for my 6 year old daughter, so far she loves it. We had a fellow homeschooling friend recommend this to us because my daughter has dyslexia. She has had trouble learning her letter sounds. We just started with this and so far she loves it and so do I. I look forward to getting more books and paper to go with it. I love how this device has audio books as well. I am also loving the fact it can be hooked up to head phones. We have not done that yet, but I plan on it when we travel in the car! This is a great learning tool! Best purchase this year by far!

Misleading. You do not get a "system" with this, though it is marketed that way. You get a very brief book which is nothing more than a preview of what the pen can do. It is about 5 pages long. I bought this thinking I would get everything needed. You buy this, and then find out that then you have to buy more things. Not worth it. Also there is a delay when the pen "talks." My son was faster than the pen and had to slow down for it. He did take a pen and mark up the box, otherwise I would have returned it.
