In my pictures I used beer and the shrimp and chicken fingers both came out great. You can slightly taste the beer and it adds nice body to the batter. I have also used just plain cold water, but beer or ale is much tastier. This mix is very convenient. Just measure out one cup of mix, add 2/3 cup of liquid and mix well. It's my go-to batter mix.
