This was recommended to me by friend for my refrigerator. As he said, if you have a brown out or your electricity goes out chances are your refrigerator will be running. Refrigerators do run a lot so for the price of this protector It's a lot cheaper than replacing your refrigerator.

Actually works as intended.
I would consider this a delay mechanism after a power outage mostly, not so much as surge protector.
The minimal surge protection would burn it out toasting the this item but most likely saving the appliance in the process.
I had a 30 second one and it did its job. There are times when the power will go off and on several times in secession till it stays on.
This will prevent the power from reconnecting to the attached appliance or other item for the delay period of 3 minutes.
I would imagine most surges happen on power on after an outage. So this delay period is a good idea.
I connected this item to our "high tech" washing machine and it worked in delaying the startup for the delay period.

I would not personally use it for a refrigerator as in most cases you can not see if the unit is functioning properly because it is behind the refrigerator.
If the unit fails on its own, as mentioned in some reviews you could lose the contents in the refrigerator. That would not be good nor worth the risk.
A high quality surge protector only would work better in this case as these do not shut off power when they fail, only the protection is gone.
My Voltage Protector has been working great now for about 10 weeks on the washing machine, but long term we will have to see. After all these devices must have long term durability to be worth installing them. But so far so good.

Also I do have a whole house surge protector which I recommend. Thus the joule rating is not that important to me, though I still use surge only protectors on my electronic equipment like computers and flat screens.

If the durability works out I may use a few more only because I like the delay function it provides, especially after a major power failure.
It will stop the equipment from cycling on/off if the power starts to flicker.

Exactly as described, fast ship. I have this plugged into my refrigerator, we live in an area that experiences many brown/black out's and unfortunately I learned the hard way that the computer board in my fridge does not like power surges. So when I ordered the new board for my dead refrigerator, I also ordered this protector. There have been 3 outages and a couple of brown outs THAT I KNOW OF since I installed it. When electricity is restored the protector takes a few minutes to ensure that the flow is constant and then switched back on. I feel so much relief knowing my expensive appliance is protected.

Had a brownout just the other night, lights dimmed for more than an hour. It would have surely burned out the controller board in my refrigerator, which I just paid $600 to have replaced, if not for this little device. Even though I have a whole-house surge protector in my main box, the power was still flowing to the house. I AM SO GLAD I BOUGHT THIS!! It shut off power to the frig immediately and kept it off until the power was restored to normal. Great product at a great price! I just ordered another one to protect my microwave and will probably buy more as they are available to plug all the other sensitive appliances.
