So tired of trudging out to the mailbox, two or three times a day, and finding nothing, and not knowing if we just didn't receive any mail or our mail person has not arrived yet. For whatever reason she doesn't always get here at the same time each day, and a few times I had given up only to go out later at night and finding mail. After reviewing the different alert systems from Amazon I chose this one, and it arrived today.

I opened the package and it was so easy and simple to set it up. For some reason or other the battery compartment has the two springs that are usually at the negative end of the battery both set at the same end of the compartment, requiring that one positive terminal will be pressed against a spring. No problem. I inserted two AAA batteries and closed the compartment, and I then sealed the box with tape to seal out the weather, and inserted the sensor on the inside of the mail box door, using the supplied velcro.

I then plugged the AC adapter into an outlet near tour front door and connected it to the receiver. which beeped to let me know it was activated. I was then going to go to the mail box to open the door so my wife could let me know if it was working when suddenly there was a loud beep from the receiver, and when I looked out the window I saw the msil truck at my mail box. It worked perfectly. I love it. Five Stars!!!

I bought this mailbox alert system to replace a Smarthome mailbox alert system that worked perfectly for more than 20 years. This one was easy to install with clear directions. The old one alerted you once when mail came in...this new one will alert you every time the mailbox is opened. The alert is audible (beeps) and visual (flashing blue light). This saves me from going up and down the steps to check if the mail came in.

Product did not work. Called company and I followed their instruction only to learn they did not accept the Amazon receipt. Having owned other brands of this product I can tell you this will fail in a year or less due to weather (item not waterproof), battery cover will fall off and batteries will fall out due to poor construction. Battery compartment is poorly engineered with one spring installed backwards. I am going back to the Windchime product. Still playing games with company and will complain to Amazon.

It is my own fault for not reading the description better. I had the impression it was motion detection that triggered the alert (sort of like the various motion detection lights I have in front of our home). It is a motion detector but in the way I thought. It connects to the mailbox door that the mailman opens to insert mail. But I have a group mailbox and the mailman opens a door in the back for all the boxes. So it will not work for my needs. Since it was my own reading error I will keep it and see if I can find a use for it.

Worked great for 2 days, then the heat of the mailbox melted the 'sticky' stuff that holds it inside.... then after 3 weeks it just stopped working completely. Upon opening the 'mailbox' unit, one of the electronic pieces had broken off.
