I'll give more details when I build it.

It was hard to pass this one up, especially as it came with the movie lobby backdrop. Those familiar with the movie know that at no time is Altaira actually carried by Robby. However, the scene depicted was used as a poster promoting the movie. I've read the numerous reviews on the the difficulties of positioning Altaira in Robby's arms so I hope to avoid that. So far all I've done is open the box and inspect everything. The model looks very crisp with little or no flash. No doubt you can go hog wild on detailing this kit but it also looks like it will look pretty good straight out of the box. But at this point I can only say it looks fantastic. Once I build it, I'll come back and update this review. That said, for the price, it was extremely hard to pass up!

First of all, I got this from The History Store via Amazon. Great seller!
The kit itself is very detailed, and it looks nice when completed, but it's the getting there that is a challenge. As with a lot of Polar Light kits, there are a LOT of small pieces, especially in the head area. The clear pieces require quite a bit filing down, especially with the transducer halves, which don't fit together if you don't (and mine had some flash in the back of the voice tube panel which filing doesn't clear entirely). Altaira's arms have seams which necessitate filling in to avoid a weird look, and yes, you HAVE to glue Robby's arms on AFTER you place Altaira in position first (and you'll need a little bit of manual gymnastics to get everything just right). Still, in the end, it's a very good kit, but I wonder if a 10 year old would have the patience to build it properly (although building and painting Altaira would be a great incentive).
