There is only one reason I subtracted one star from this well-made, creative cat toy: I'm afraid my cat is too smart for it. She LOVED it when I first showed it to her. She observed it, touched it, sniffed it. Then I rolled one of the balls and she was glued to it for an entire hour. She went absolutely crazy making those balls go around. She ran around and around it, trying to keep up with her getaway ball. After an hour, she played with it off and on for a day. But when she managed to stop a ball from rolling with one paw then trap it with her other paw, and she couldn't get it out and play with the ball, she became very frustrated. She would abruptly stop playing, come over to me and talk. Then she'd return to the toy and try some more. After several times of trapping the ball between her paws, she seems to have decided it's nothing to bother about. I put it away for a few days to give her a break from seeing it. Giving it to her every few days only elicits an expression from her that says, "Been there. Done that." And she walks away.

However, with the manufacturing updates, this toy is well constructed, safe, balanced, does not tip over with my now 14-week old kitten, and it's perfectly delightful to watch when the cat is interested by it. Hopefully its desirability will last longer with your cat than it did with mine.

(I think my shelter kitty may be a Bengal mix. She has an intelligence I haven't seen in my plethora of previous feline pets, and I always try to choose the smartest kitten I can find. This one is scary smart. She can leap distances of 4-5 feet, is quickly learning the meaning of a few words like No, Uh-uh!, and Mouse, and already recognizes her name. ((I've had her for 2 weeks.)) She taught me recently that she likes too play fetch. Her favorite toys are the Kong chewtoy with the feathers, empty boxes with holes, and jingly balls. She's an incredibly friendly, sweet, interactive cat and clearly, I must provide live persons for her to play with or take naps with. Grandchildren who visit regularly are invaluable. I'll keep this toy awhile longer, but will probably resell.)

i wanted to like this, but my cat can toss this around like a piece of paper, it is too light weight and flimsy. He is a large cat but he can play with it by picking it up with both his paws, not something he can do with a wider based toy. The grippers on the bottom, do not grip anything. I have 3 other cats who appear somewhat interested but not enough to warrant the purchase of this. Sorry but this one is a fail. Go for the wider based toy, it cant be tipped over unless you have a mountain lion. :(

I bought this for my kitten - and the other full-grown cats in my house love it too! My kitten lays on the floor on one side of it, and one of my adult cats will lay on the other side. They bat the balls back and forth on the first two tiers and seem to really enjoy it. One of my adult cats managed to pull the bottom ball out of the toy, but he does that with every track ball toy we have (we now have 3 different ones). The balls are easily put back into the toy.

This is really cute. I can see why cats love it! I'm still waiting for my cat to take to it, she's a little too old fashioned and likes to play with strings the most, but I bet she will be playing with this when we aren't looking, as cats do! :) The three tiers are great and the balls really do roll around perfectly without getting stuck. It also is nice because it's not super wide so it doesn't take up a ton of floor space, like a lot of these ball chaser toys do. Great design. If my cat doesn't appreciate it, I know another kitty that I can gift it to who would love it!

UPDATE: I ordered a second one as a gift for a friend with a new kitten. It arrived to their home a day earlier than expected, and their kitten started playing with it right away. Still impressed and highly recommended!

This thing is a huge hit in my house. Kitten loves it and has been playing nonstop! I read the reviews about how earlier versions did not have the bar across the center hole. I'm very glad they changed that, because the first thing kitten did was try to stick her head in the middle. All good here though - highly recommend!
