Easiest Way to Put on Shoes
Mr R✓ Verified PurchaseMarch 7, 2017
I know, I know; who writes a review for a shoe horn, right? Well, I'm a little older now and have trouble bending down to put on my snug fitting shoes. I had a longish metal combination back scratcher and shoe horn for several years until the shoe horn broke while I was putting on my shoes one recent morning. (Not a good thing to happen with a broken hunk of metal between your sock and your shoe.) I couldn't find anything comparable in the local stores so I thought of Amazon. Oh, yes; they had several to pick from and I settled on FootMatters 24 Inch model. I can't say enough about how great it is. The length is great enough that I barely have to bend to use it to put on my shoes. My back really appreciates that. I was concerned that it might be a little flimsy but it's very well made with side "els" that reinforce the whole length down to the part that you use to put on your footwear. Although I didn't think about it when purchasing this, the horn is long enough that you could use it to help put on boots too.
Good tool to use when seated - UPDATED: 1/27/15

I purchased this for my mother who recently broke her hip and is now having to relearn how to dress herself without bending or stooping down to put on her shoes. This shoe horn is just the right length for her to use when seated on the side of her bed.

While it seemed kind of flimsy out of the box, it does the trick and is priced right. I think perhaps my first impression of 'flimsy' should be reassessed to be 'flexible', but keep that in mind when using it, as it is lightweight plastic and durability may be an issue for some users.

UPDATE: 1/27/15 - My mother loves this extra long shoe horn! She says it's the best tool she has and with both a healing hip and swelling feet, this is a Godsend! She recommends it to everyone and I've increased my star rating of the product to reflect her happiness with it.

I NEVER thought I'd have a hard time getting into my shoes...and I mean NEVER. Most of my life I have used an old shoe horn from the old Thom McAn shoe store (on Fulton Street in Brooklyn). It's been with me through thick and thin. So now that I myself am more thick than thin, and have a good deal of difficulty bending down to use old Thom I've reluctantly made a switch. These days I am pretty wear only loafer-type shoes. Placing the "Durable Easy-Grip Long Handled Shoe Horn" in the back of my shoe and ka-zam, the foot slides right into the shoe. This shoe horn is pretty thick plastic so there is little danger of it snapping in half during the dressing process. So grand-pa - if you're listening - I am so very sorry for making fun of you when you couldn't bend down to get your shoes on or even to pick up the dime you dropped. Too bad they didn't have a Durable way back then, right?
Excellant tool after knee replacement.

Before total knee replacement I researched on Amazon.com items that others recommended after having had the surgery. Many products were recommended that I purchased and this was among them.

This was in the top three of items I actually used. Since I had chosen to wear supportive slip on shoes after surgery this was extremely handy. It is very hard to maneuver oneself for at least two weeks after surgery where you can bend down and slip on the back of your shoe. With this handy tool you don't have to bend over at all.

It is made out of flexible but sturdy plastic and I will keep this in case I need to use it in the future. I have two friends who are having total knee replacement in the near future and I plan on giving one of these to each of them as I know they will use them.

One other note: the one I received is not bright red as the one online but rather a pretty burgundy color.

I looked at all the long-handled shoe horns and all the reviews. I actually initially purchased a wooden one thinking it would look nice. I am so glad it never arrived, because now I have a great one: Solid one-piece. There is nothing to break or come apart; no wood splits, cracks, screws. Perfect length and curve. A scoop at the heel that is wide enough to slide your foot down, yet narrow enough to fit in any shoe. It is a solid plastic, not so slick that you cannot get a gripe on it, but smooth enough to slide the roughest heel right into the shoe.

Honestly, I have been wearing backless clogs to work now for 4 years now since an injury made bending no longer an option. I am delighted that I was able to knock the dust off my moccasins and slip them right on. Since moccasins have a soft back, I figured they would be the best possible test. This shoe horn passed with flying colors!
