Changed rating after excellent customer service experience resolved my issue

Original review was 3 stars:

I got this to replace a 110" manual version of this screen that I loved. But I wanted something larger, and motorized since I was tired of going up and pulling it down whenever I wanted to use it.

My first complaint is the bad design of the cable placement for the wall switch. The cable for the up/down control panel comes out of the bottom, it's got a cat-5 style plug, that sticks part way out. No good way to hide it, just unsightly. Most things designed to be a centerpiece visually usually take better steps so that the protrusion is as unnoticeable as possible. I understand they have limited options since they can't have it stick out the back, since then you couldn't wall mount this directly to a wall, but there's still better ways this could've been done.

Power cord - even just on top of an 8 foot wall, only comes down to about 3 1/2 feet up from the floor. I can see where a short cord would be easier to hide if you use a ceiling power outlet, but for those of us without that option, it would've been nice had they used a plug of some sort so we could get different length cords. As it is, I had to get creative with some all conduit to make this look not as bad as it did otherwise with this plug dangling on the wall.

Raising and lowering - a REALLY LOUD CLICK happens every few seconds, both while going down, and while going up. It's horrible, noticeable even when in other rooms.

No D-rings, which was a letdown since I just purchased wall brackets for this so get it a bit off the wall, since the 110" one I had was screwed straight to it. The D-rings would've simplified placement, since I didn't want it hanging from the chains they recommend. But I found that I could simply use the eyelets that came with the brackets, grind a small part out to turn it into a hook, then use those to hook the front hole of the top mount onto. No chains, it sits higher, and I can still use the wingnuts to level it perfectly.

But then I hit the other disappointment... My Logitech remote has this in its memory, but only "on" and "off" which means it simply drops to full stop, then pulls up to full close. I can't do that, since in my environment, I can't let it drop to full drop and then aim the projector there, since that's several inches too low, and interferes with the table in front of it. Apparently there's a way you can use an allen wrench to adjust that stop, but it would seem on mine that it would void the warranty. To me that's just a serious fail. Yes, I can get it to where I need it to be by playing with the up and down until it stops at the right place - but it's easy to overshoot if the IR doesn't stop it where I try, and I am screwing around a bit sometimes. For something like this, it seems criminal to NOT have the ability to set the stop length so all I have to do is press "down" and it goes exactly where i need it, with NO interference from me. That shouldn't have to void a warranty, any more than adjusting your car seat's position should void the car's warranty... Hopefully they rethink this in the future.

The size is impressive, and the picture looks good on it, but I hate that it has a noisy motor that's almost embarrassing to use when company is over.

For the price, and from my previous experience with their other screen, I expected better from the quality, but at least it works and looks good, I just make sure it's either up or down as needed before anyone comes over so they don't have to hear that nasty clicking.

*** Added to review after support contacted me about the noise:

After reading my review, the manufacturer contacted me, and told me the clicking noise is a problem inside, and there is no easy fix, so they sent me a replacement at no cost. Delivered at no charge, and easy to install since I was simply pulling the bad one down, all the mounting work was done previously. New one in place, and raising and lowering it are a totally different experience now. Silent now but the low transformer kind of HUM that the motor makes. VERY elegant now. I love the screen, since this now gets me using my expensive projector a LOT more than I used to with the smaller manual screen. Being able to just hit a button on the remote makes all the difference. I was going to leave this at 3 stars, since I still dislike the lack of forethought in the cabling systems between the optional wall mount switch and the short power cord, as well as the inability to do what I think should be an obvious requirement by anyone, adjust the stop point for your particular setup without voiding the warranty. But the customer service is so outstanding, and they support their product so well, that I figured it earns back one of the stars.

And they also got with me even later about the adjustment. From what I can tell, what I was doing, stopping how far it drops, that hole is hidden elsewhere and while it had a sticker on it, the sticker wasn't like the OTHER adjustment hole that said it would void the warranty. So I *was* able to change the drop height to be absolutely perfect without having to play around, and since their support guy was the one who called me to walk me through it, it's clearly a supported action. I'm guessing the "where does it stop coming UP" one with the "void" sticker may make some sense then since someone may overadjust THAT one and break the motor.

So all told, I'm very happy, but until they have a different option for the power cord so we can get different lengths without having to splice and extend it ourselves, I'll leave it at 4 stars. But I did note on their website that they understand the power cord length requirements some people have and had said they do *NOT* void the warranty for people who cut the power cord to splice and extend it - that's a nice bit of understanding on the part of the manufacturer...
Review after owning for 3 years

I have been meaning to write a review on this for literally years now. The shipping was fairly fast and definitely within the stated time frame when I purchased it. I remember that it was sent freight because of its size and the driver coordinated the shipping time with my wife to make sure that someone would be home to take the delivery. He was nice enough to put it in the garage for my wife since I was not home. The packaging was the original box but with strong cardboard wrapped around each corner of the box. There was no damage to the box except for a small rip about 1.5" on the box. I would not have remembered that, but I have pictures from the day I got it. Unfortunately, the Amazon image upload system would not except the file type to show you.

As for the functionality of the screen. It has worked like a charm from the day I installed it back in 2018 and continues to work flawlessly to this day. We use it about 3-4 times per week, and we roll it down and back up every time. The remote works fine as long as you point it to the screen, and I don't think I have even had to change the battery yet. The sound of the motor has not changed, and there is no indication that anything is failing. It really does work like the day that I got it.

To install it, I added an electrical outlet to the ceiling and then added two 2x4s between the joists in the attic to bolt the screen in to. Bolting the screen really was a breeze, but I did need my wife to hold one side while I bolted the first side.

The picture quality was and still is amazing compared to what we were using before. I have a BenQ Ht1070 projector and the image quality was night and day after I installed the new screen. We have kept the screen very clean. There really is no reason to touch it so I have not wiped it down except when I first installed it. We generally watch a movie and then immediately roll it back up. No real opportunity for damage or to get dirty. The only thing that I wish was different from the experience was the plastic smell in the first few weeks of owning it. It smelled like a cheap pool toy for about 3 weeks. During that time I left the screen down and opened the window to allow the gases to air out. I would say that the smell is probably unavoidable with anything made out of plastic or pvc, so I do not fault Elite for that. It's like complaining about the smell of paint. It just is what it is, but it did linger for about 3 weeks to a month. It was strong at first and then at the end the smell began to fall off quicker and quicker. I would leave the window open as much as you can during this time though.

Overall, I am extremely happy with our screen, and it has made a huge difference in our home theater experience. It still feels cool to hit the remote and see the screen slowly roll down. That's our cue to know that movie night is about to start and that is always a good feeling. I definitely recommend this screen if you want to upgrade your home theater impression and experience.
Great screen with a couple of minor control quirks

Building a theater room I knew I needed to get a motorized screen as kids and screens are a disaster waiting to happen. There wasn't many choices to pick when it comes to motorized screens. I took a look at all the reviews and found that most people were mostly satisfied with the Spectrum. I purchased the screen and the mounting brackets to make sure I had everything secured properly. Unfortunately for me when installing the brackets I was of an inch or so which has the screen screwed on sideways a bit.

5/5 SCREEN: The screen material is really good and pairs well with my projector (Epson 6050ub) The colors appear vibrant and even with some light coming through from an adjacent window, I still have no problems seeing details.

5/5 MOTOR: The motor is great it's not very loud (it actually sounds just like you would hear in a real theater) it doesn't take long (7 seconds) to the optimal position.

3.5/5 CONTROLS: There are many options for controlling the screen 1) Wireless remote. There are two problems I've encountered with the remote. First none of the buttons are labeled and are just three circles. So when you first look at the remote you have to play around until you understand that the top button is for up the middle is for stop and the bottom button is for down. The second issue is that you have to aim the remote to the far left side of the screen otherwise it doesn't register. This is a bit annoying. As a side note the response time is a tad delayed when pressing the buttons. 2) Wired control panel. This plugs directly into the screen into a RJ45 connector which is found under the screen on the left hand side. The buttons for this were also not labeled but the shapes of the buttons made it more apparent what each one does (This is how I learned how to use the wireless remote). As others have mentioned the fact that you plug this into the bottom of the screen is an eye sore. 3) Trigger control for projector. This has two parts one part plugs directly into the screen via the RJ45 connector the other part you have to make yourself. You're given a half created cable which you will need to cut open an AUX cable to create. This then plugs into the back of your projector in the trigger slot. I haven't done this yet but I'm puzzled as to why Elite Screens couldn't have this made for us already.?

4/5 INSTALLATION: Installation is not hard but if you're not quite precise with your measurement you may end up the way I did where the brackets are not 100% accurately aligned causing the screen to hang from the screws diagonally. It didn't cause any issues with viewing though. Another point of emphasis is that you will need at least one other person to help you install this if you choose to use the optional brackets from Elite Screens.

4/5 DELIVERY: Elite Screens uses a freight company to handle the delivery. The problem that I had was that I wasn't aware that I needed to reach out to the freight company to schedule for delivery. This resulted in my screen sitting at the freight company for an extended period of time.

5/5 PACKAGING: Elite Screens did a great job packaging the screen. It comes an a very long rectangular box which then has a smaller rectangular box. As a result the screen came in great condition.

Overall I'm satisfied with my purchase.
Awesome, well-priced projector screen!

Did a lot of research on projector screens as we looked at getting rid of our TV in the living room and replace it with a projector system. Our living room gets a lot of light from windows and a door that leads out to our deck, so we decided to place the projector screen in front of that set of doors and windows to block out light while watching TV. When the screen is up, it's hidden by curtains. This screen has been great for that use! We simply have it automatically come down and it blocks out pretty much all of the light from behind, allowing for a pretty decent picture during the day from our Epson 2150 projector. At night things are even better, of course.

Our screen arrived in excellent condition - we don't see any waves anywhere or curling at the edges. The motor is not the most silent thing in the world, but it's quiet enough to not wake anyone up at night when lowering or raising the screen. It's not the fastest at raising or lowering the screen, but it certainly doesn't take more time than it would for the projector to warm itself up and get a picture out. The remote is basic but it works, although there are times when it has a clear line of sight to the IR receiver and doesn't respond. For backup, we did install the wall switch included in the package by simply taping it onto the wall with Command strips.

You can change the drop distance on this screen - from the factory, it's set to drop the maximum it can, which was quite a lot more than we had expected. You just have to find an Allen key that fits (5/32") into a couple of adjustment switches on the left side of the screen (looking from the front). Instructions are available online, or by e-mailing or calling Elite Screens. They said we would have to remove a sticker to access the switches, but I did not have to. Just a few turns of the adjustment switch had it exactly where we needed it.

Installation was pretty easy for the most part, aside from some user error. We mounted ours directly on the wall, and the screen itself comes out very close to flush with the wall, so we had to tack on a couple of 2x4s behind the mounting points to prop the screen out of the wall a bit more, or it would have hit the trim on the door on the way down each time. I do wish they had provided exact measurements for the distance between the mounting holes with the instructions, but that's easy enough to measure. I was worried that the method for mounting to the wall would not be very secure, but it's firmly in and not moving at all.

Overall, this is a great entry-level screen. I'm sure there are many others out there that are better but I'm also sure they cost a lot more. For our use and our first foray into home theaters, this is perfect and we're very happy with it!
Bright, true colors and reliable

I am a filmmaker and I review projects at home. I had installed one size smaller of this same screen in my old house and it worked so well I bought this for the new house. I use it with and Epson 3200 3-LCD projector and the images bright and the colors true. The motor works well, I had it professionally mounted with a small valence in front so it's nearly invisible when retracted.
