I recommend this disc for writing to M-Discs. It is noisy without an enclosure or proper chipset.
I have a WARNING of caution for future buyers.
Beware of which interface/bridge that you use with this drive. I know that ASMedia ASM1053E works with this drive, but I tried common USB-SATA cables which dropped the connection while writing to a BD-R 100 GB. You will be able to know if the bridge is incompatible by the number of available write speeds.
Always write at the rated speed on the disc even when tempted to write at 24x. If it is rated for 4x, write at 4x. Slower writing is reliable.
It is possible to play discs on your smart TV through USB - open tv file manager and play- but not as plug-and-play.

I wouldn't say there is anything groundbreaking about this drive. It works and I'm happy with it. It is disappointing that there are so few options anymore for SATA blu-ray capable drives.

I got both the single drive and the combo with the enclosure and so far both are working great. As others have mentioned, with a slight firmware tweak, you can access and backup your Blu-rays and UHD Blu-rays. You will not be able to watch UHD blu-rays without the older gen intel CPU's with the SGX feature to decrypt the disk though. There may be some software players that will bypass this restriction with the modded firmware, but why bother when you can just rip the files off and compress them to a decent file size without losing too much quality.
Currently using these two drives (one via SATA, and the other with the USb enclosure) and they are working great together to rip my movies. Also using 2 other slim drives for this, but only one of them is UHD compatible. While the slim drives are nice for portability, these internal drives are way better for ripping. They are ripping faster than the slim drives, and nearly half the cost. (At least the cost for the drive only, with the enclosure, its about the same costs).
The only other thing to note about these is they do get pretty warm while ripping, which is interesting.
