Like everyone else in the world I had a set of Stanley chisels in the garage that I picked up from who knows where, who knows when. Maybe I got them as a gift at my birth"¦I don't know, they've just always been there. I think it's obligatory for all men to own a set of these by the time they turn 18 or something.
Anyway, I'd used them for various little projects over the years. I didn't really know what a chisel was for, so who knows what kind of abuses they'd suffered.
Recently, I've had need of a chisel to flatten off a spot so I could attach a 3" faceplate to various logs in order turn them. Enter the villain. I scraped the paint off one I'd used as a stirrer, ground the nick out of another that was used to pry a nail out of a board, and retrieved the other from under my shop bench (which now wobbles again). They were rough"¦so I ground the backs perfectly flat, re ground the faces and put a really nice edge on them.
Armed and ready, I started using them as actual chisels. I quickly discovered the error of my ways and returned them to duty as paint stirrers, pry bars and bench leveling devices. Each had serious nicks and gouges in them from use in green wood! It was ridiculous. Again, I wondered what the hell a chisel WAS good for.
On advice from a friend I grabbed these.
NOW I know what a chisel is good for. All kinds of serious woodworking needs"¦including making flat spots for 3" faceplates.
If you don't have a useable set of chisels, I'd recommend these. They arrived completely dead flat on the back and sharp enough to shave with. A month of good use later and they are still in fresh from the package condition.

They’re great!

These look very similar to the cheap ones I got at Harbor Freight and I was wondering if they were indeed the same, but fortunately they are not. My HF ones are a very soft steel, so much so that I actually bent one of them about 30 degrees by accident. These I can tell already are not going to bend on me, and they're also staying sharper much longer.
Quality said of chisels and it’s made in the USA.

These chisels are well-made, and arrived already sharpened, that may sound funny but a lot of the chisels I bought were dull. These are also made in the USA. Would I buy again? Yes. It would be nice to be able to find a larger set. These are well-made and well priced for what you're getting.
Harbor who??

I got my set for $20 bucks. That's an amazing value price. You can barely buy a set of cheap Chinese crap from Harbor Freight for that kinda money.
I love good tools. I was a machinist for many years before I retired and I like to think that I know a little bit about good tools. When I was a younger man I could only afford cheaper quality tools. Now that I'm older and have had the good fortune to have a little more money, I choose to only buy quality stuff. I was shocked to find tools of this quality for such a low cost. Excellent hardened steel that has been properly heat treated. Very comfortable acetate handles with steel caps. You can actually use a hammer with these guys. I don't recommend it unless you know what you're doing to avoid damaging the chisel. But you can, they're pretty tough. All three in my set arrived both perfectly flat as well as decently sharpened. Not razor sharp, but a pretty good edge. Easily touched up and made extremely sharp.
I think I actually had a set of these guys when I was young that I stole from my dad. I probably beat the crap out of them and then promptly lost them. lol. Won't happen again!
I am very pleasantly surprised to be able to find tools of this high quality at such a low price. Good on you Buck Bros. Still made in the USA 🇺🇸
That's pretty damn important to me. I love my country and I love being able to support the American workers
Very highly recommend
