Narex Unhandled Dual Bevel Marking Knife Kit with Finger Indents Stainless Steel Blade (0.100" Thick Blade)

Key features
- •A marking knife is an invaluable tool that should be in the toolbox of every woodworker. A good marking knife can produce crisp and well-defined marks on wood essential when laying out precision joinery or transferring measurements. Scribe lines left by a marking knife can also locate and guide chisels and saws. This Dual Bevel Spear Point marking knife is made by Narex, a world-class edge tool manufacturer in the Czech Republic.
- •The blade is made from AISI 420 corrosion resistant stainless steel and hardened and tempered to HRC 57. This steel is a traditional knife steel and designed to take and hold a keen edge and resist corrosion. The blade is 5-7/8 inches long, 1/2 inch wide and come in 3 thicknesses: 0.030", 0.060" or 0.100 inch thick.
- •The blade has a dual-bevel spear point tip. The tip is ground to 55 degrees with a 25-degree grind on both bevels. The bevels are precision ground on CNC machines. The laser cut finger indents are useful for applying pressure closer to the tip.
- •The dual bevel will mark distinct lines on both the right and left side of a part or guide. It will leave crisp lines when marking with and against the grain and on end grain. The knife may require just a light stropping to remove a small wire edge to get it razor sharp and ready to use.
- •The knife can be used either unhandled or wood scales can be attached to create a handle. If a handle is desired the kit comes with 2 brass pins to affix scales to the blade.

Excellent part to make a marking knife
Dennis T.✓ Verified Purchase•September 4, 2023
Knife is sharp and should be ready to use once scales or handles are added.
If you are enjoying making tools, then this is for you because it would take some time to attach the wooden scales to its handles. It will be more than just a 10 minute job that woodworking wizards seemed to implicate on YouTube.
Otherwise, just get the very same item but with the wooden scales already attached, sold here on Amazon for just a few dollars more and it is ready to be used out of the box.
Five stars either way.

Carbon steel would be better

This tool took a while to sharpen even though it just needed touching up on the diamond plate. Stainless steel just isn't good for cutting tools. The marking knife looks well made. It should be fine for my woodworking stuff. I just wish it was carbon steel instead of stainless.

My wife bought me a high end set of Narex chisels recently, and I wanted one of these scribing knives and saw this; made an olive wood handle with good ergonomics and it works really well.
Beautiful, lightweight blade.
