I spent 16 years working on computers for a school, so had a lot of hard drives that often died and needed to get the info off them. My old external adapter kit was ancient and had been used for years. I purchased this to use on the 20+ hard drives that I pulled out of my own old computers. So easy to use and when finished, I format the drives and can always use them to store files on them or use a sledgehammer to smash it out of use. This is also so much smaller than the old one I have been using, and way easier. Always glad to use newer technology to recover old items.

This device WILL NOT recover your data for you but it WILL connect most any hard drive to a USB port so that you can run recovery software. At the moment I am attempting to recover as much data as possible from a 750Gb Seagate drive which is nearing complete failure. Without this adapter, I would have no options as I just upgraded to a Mini PC with no chance of attaching anything but USB devices. I have not tried the backup feature yet as I am using Macrium Reflect for scheduled backups. This adapter may not be much but what it does it does quite well.

My 500g back-up drive died. Now what? Hire a recovery company (very expensive)? This saved the day: I broke open the case, removed its drive, and attached it to this: perfect, Then I realized I have two old computers ready for the recycling center which contain three hard drives totaling 4T of memory. One now serves as my wife's archives and another as mine. They are all easily accessible using this adapter. In the meantime, I keep them in our fireproof safe. Now my mini-computer (Minisforum, bought through Amazon), which has modest built-in memory, has more available than I could have imagined.
