Works perfect with punk wood!
The Southwest Backpacker•April 24, 2016
I had no problem getting a campfire started with this. I have found that using punk wood (wood that is rotted) works REALLY REALLY well! Just take a piece of punk wood and attach it to the focal point on the tab and in 5 to 10 seconds, you have a burning ember that is easy to work with and long lasting. Iv'e tried to get an ember on an overcast day and did not have any success so you need a clear and sunny day for this to work. Worth every penny in my opinion!
Amazing only a few seconds to ignite
vince•July 22, 2015
This item worked spectacular it ignited within about 15 seconds even with the dried leaf that came with it. But when I put a little char cloth and it it didn't even take 5 seconds to have it burning and ready to be transferred into a tinder bundle this is an amazing product and worth every dime
I wish it had a larger mirror...

I'm sure one can get an ember, but I had no luck getting actual fire although more skillful people probably could. I made a short video trying this product and comparing it with an ordinary 5" cosmetic mirror which worked better.
Works - if you can do your part.
CJ Denver•January 23, 2015
I tried various tinder items. The supplied leaves went up instantanteously. Lint surprisingly not so much...Lots of fun but truthfully I need to be better at starting a fire without the old petroleum jelly cottonballs. Be careful though as it is like staring into the sun! Very well made. Love it!
I would not want to rely on this to work on other than a full sun day.

Would not recommend polishing mirror as some have suggested
Ron•January 6, 2015
Gave it a 10 second try and had nine seconds left over. Just about instantaneous. Would not recommend polishing mirror as some have suggested. To clean, use alcohol and cotton ball. Extremely light pressure. Let the alcohol do the work. Best if just left alone. Does not work well in a bat cave. Highly recommend adding to emergency survival kit Excellent stocking stuffer for camper / hiker. Well made and durable. Well worth the price. Would recommend to others. Great gift for a Scout.
