Good quality, but not for me.

I bought this set to carve spoons, but returned it__ the blades are so small as to be inappropriate for my use. I have several Flexcut carving tools, and the quality is good, and my carving friends all seem to like their Flexcut tools. Perhaps I didn't read the description carefully enough before I ordered.
The tools seem to be the usual Flexcut good quality. And the set comes with a sharpening strop__ a big plus considering the complicated angles of the blades. The tool roll that comes with is attractive, but badly designed__ when you tie it up, you end up with a fat and awkward lump of tools.

Good product with one slight modification.

The knives are good quality however the shape of the larger carving knife created a pressure point on my thumb. The mini carving knife has a groove for the thumb which makes it comfortable. I made a similar modification to the larger carving knife and that relieved the pressure on my thumb. Also, the groove made it easier to duplicate the 65 degree angle for the 1st position cuts consistently.
Decent Beginners' Set; Poor Packaging

Only 4 stars because the wooden box my set came in is poorly designed. The sliding cover is nearly impossible to open because the knife handles contact the underside of the cover and want to roll with the cover as you slide it open jamming it. I had to break it open for fear if I pulled any harder to open the cover as it's designed, I would have knives flying everywhere.
Great Knives - Very Sharp

I was very pleased with these Flexicut knives. My primary knife has been a Helvie basic carving knife and it has become my secondary knife, reserved for when I need to make flexible cuts. Both Flexicut knives arrived super sharp and ready to use and I was impressed by the ease the standard carving blade went through the wood. I was also impressed by the smaller detail knife. The only downside is one I ran into with my Flexicut Pelican knife years before: the handle gets really grungy from my gloves and the surface deteriorates. This has been easily resolved by scraping off the finish of all three of my Flexicut knives and using them without refinishing. I actually prefer the look of the bare wood and I have not seen any trace of grunge on the scraped handles.
Better woodworking

I have tried different hand tools to do small woodworking projects and I found that there was more time being spent sharpening. This time I have found quality tools that are holding up better and this kit is tools that I need where other kits have 2 or 3 tools that are just not needed. For beginners or even thoughts looking for quality tools down the road. This is worth the investment. having quality tools makes it fun to design and make personal art.
