This is a first time microscope for my 8 year old. She loves it and is fascinated by it. It came with some beginner items like slides, petri dish, scalpel, etc. to spark their interest. However the tweezers are huge, plastic and useless for small items. The microscope magnifies pretty well but it's hard to get things to magnify at the 1200X. Also, we tried to hatch the brine shrimp and they didn't hatch. We think the eggs may have been too old. The booklet says they won't hatch if over 5 years old. Oh well. We still have had plenty of fun checking out leaves and such. I can see that we will have to buy a better one in a year or 2 as my daughter gets older. For the price this works for now just fine.

The microscope kit looks great. The microscope, itself, does not seem to magnify the slides overly well. Also, use of this kit really needs to be with adult supervision. When my son-in-law helped my grandson place the slides under the microscope and adjust the viewer, my grandson was very excited at what he could see.
The case is very nice to have, with a place for every item and a clasp.
My advice is to always have an adult assist the child.
