A great tool to ensure a proper air gap
cobarry-2017•February 24, 2017
A great tool to ensure a proper air gap. We've had a small backup with this in place and it protected our softener drain line. My only complaint and the reason it's 4 stars is that it is not quite up to the flow rate of our softener so it slows down the backwashing process and ups the pressure (like a thumb on a garden hose) which causes a little "spitting" out of the open area.
it worked just fine. The discharge water

I purchased this to use as an airgap for the discharge water from a water softener. As a standalone product, it did not meet my needs"¦ However, with a little "help", it worked just fine.
The discharge water, at least with our softener, has quite a bit of pressure behind it, so simply placing the vinyl tube in the port at the top is insufficient"¦ The pressure would shoot it right out and spray water everywhere. It just so happens that a standard dishwasher tubing coupler (rubber) fits perfectly over the port, with a 5/8 OD vinyl tube fitting perfectly in the other end. Problem solved! Also, I did use a zip tie to secure the device to the stand pipe... as I said, lots of pressure from the softener"¦ It was acting like a "jet" and lifting the device out of the standpipe. Does it tie ensured that the device was secure so that it wouldn't come out and again, spray water everywhere .
