Didn't even last a year before the switch that's used to on to the "filter" setting started automatically shutting off the regular setting. I had to keep flipping it downward and holding it in place to get the water to run normally when washing dishes, etc. I contacted the company and they offered to "replace" it, but I had to ship it back to them and then wait 8 weeks for a new one??? They didn't even offer to pay for return shipping. The other alternative they offered me was a 25% discount off of a new one, with one caveat, I had to buy it directly from them. Bad experience. Oh, and by the way, the actual filters only last about 2 weeks for me before the water stream turns to trickle. Takes about 1 minute to fill a glass of water. This is with normal use, making 2 cups of coffee per day and drinking water.
700 less plastic bottles in the landfill and counting...

I purchased this item in mid August, but decided to wait to write the review to give me some evaluation time with the product. It is now Feb 1st and I have had it for 5 months. I love this system, it was easy to install and I was lucky that my faucet accepted the basic adapter. So far in the 5 months I have had it I have had zero problems with the system. I have not purchased a single bottle of water since I got it. I just put in the third filter, so I got 5 months out of the previous two filters. I live in the metro Houston area and the tap water smells and tastes awful here, but when I sniff the water from my PUR system I cannot discern a smell and the taste is better than the plastic infused taste from some bottled waters. I was buying at least 4 cases of bottled water and purchasing bulk water for cooking. Now that is not very expensive, but it still comes to about $25 a month, which in five months would have cost me $125 plus all the plastic bottles in the landfill since my apt complex does not have a recycling program. The PUR system cost me $35 and the replacement filters were $10 each. So for $55 the system paid for itself in about 2.5 months of use. Plus I just noticed that an Amazon supplier has replacement filters on sale for half priced if you buy six. I am so on that deal...lol. If I had one criticism of the system it is that the filter exchange indicator light will eventually stop working before the system stops working and I am expected to just keep track of when I install the filter so I know when to replace it. While that is not a deal breaker when the time comes I will have to decide whether to buy a new system or do a strict filter exchange every 2 months to avoid the possibility of drinking bad water. I think PUR should correct that.
TDS tested worse than my tap water
Suzanne A✓ Verified PurchaseJanuary 14, 2017
Most bottled water companies refuse to tell you what is in your water and I have Florida city water, which is full of Chlorine and Flouride. I had just purchased this one and thought it must be great because it's a we'll known brand. After reading about how drinking chlorinated water raises your chances of cancer by 93%, I started researching filters and found that this one does NOT filter chlorine! I then ordered a different brand that claimed to filter both chlorine and flouride.
The biggest surprise was when I used the TDS tester and found that my tap water (316) was actually better than my brand new Pur faucet filter(324)! I refilled and retested the water 3 times, thinking I must've made a mistake, but it came out exactly the same each time. I then reread the setup instructions, thinking I must've set it up wrong, but I had followed each step to the T! Needless to say, I'm returning the Pur filter.
Our Experience with Pur Vs Brita
Farhan K✓ Verified PurchaseNovember 1, 2016
We've been using Brita Pitcher water based filters since forever up until earlier this year when we switched to the Pur Faucet based water filters mainly because the plastic pitchers with Brita would scratch and show signs of wear which look ugly on the dinner table & also they were too slow to fill if you wanted to have water right away. Overall based on our experience in the past couple of months we are satisfied with the Pur Water filtration systems barring a few minor gripes.

Uboxing & Installation
-----------------------------
- Check out my video for the unboxing , initial impressions & installation

Build Quality & Using It
----------------------------------
- Despite is shiny chrome appearance , the Filter body is made of plastic which means that we are a bit extra careful around it while doing the dishes as it dosent seem like it would be able to withstand a hard knock
- Using the filter and switching between unfiltered tap water (for washing etc) and filtered water is very simple with a small plastic lever on the right side.
- The plastic lever feels precariously fragile when its on the 'On' filtered water position, so once again we are extra careful while filling our water pitchers
- There is also a small LED indicator on the front which tells you when you need to change the filter ( the manual says every 3 months)
- Comes with 4 different adapters to fit your faucet - only one of them (the Type-A) adapter is made of metal and the rest are plastic. Luckily the type A adapter should work with most standard faucets and worked for us

Water Taste & Comparison with Brita
------------------------------------------------
There are a couple of major differences when it comes to the water taste and quality between the two , mainly because :
- The Brita water filtration system is gravity fed which makes is slower but allows water to interact with the filter for a longer period of time . Whereas the PUR water filter is pressure fed making is fast and gives water less time to interact with the filter
- The Brita filter cartridges are longer than the PUR cartridges increasing the time and surface area the water interacts with the filter materials

As a result in my opinion, the water tastes slightly better and sweeter from the Brita Filters when compared against PUR. Now water from PUR filters itself is definitely noticeably better than plain tap water so it does its job well & its overall performance combined with the super fast filtered water flow is nothing to sneeze at

The Good
--------------
- Super fast filtered water when compared to gravity fed filters
- Water tastes much better than plain tap water alone
- Easy operation and switching between plain tap water and filtered water
- Looks attractive in the kitchen
- Based on the design and layout you choose, it really does not get too much in the way while doing the dishes

The Not So Good
--------------------
- There is no second opinion about it , it does not to seem like its built to last with its plastic construction and looks fragile. We are extra cautious when using it and doing the dishes. The lever switch mechanism appears the be the most fragile as its plastic and hinged right at the corner
- Running hot water through the filter kills it
- Doesn't compare that well when compared to gravity fed filtration systems (Brita)

Important Consideration Before Purchasing
------------------------------------------------------
Please make sure that your kitchen faucet has a removable screw-on type aerator. This filter will not work with non-removable aerator type faucets

Final Thoughts
-------------------
Overall the PUR water filtration is pretty good for what it offers at its price point with the biggest advantage that we see is the fast on demand filtered water output with reasonably good taste. I just wish it was built better to last.
Great filter faucet with no leaks

Very easy to install. So very easy to switch between filter and non filtered water. I did watch the video on the Pur website first to see how it is installed and was sure on how to put the water filter in the device.
