If you have an older style charge cover, then this is what you're looking for. Quick, relatively painless fix.
Stopped the leak on my 2009 Bad Boy ZT Elite zero turn mower
Marty and Patti👫•November 11, 2016
Hydro-gear transmissions are in many of the different mowers on the market. My Bad Boy zero turn had been leaking hydraulic oil for this entire past season. My wife went online and narrowed it down to this part that we needed. We had to order two, one for each transmission. If you go onto the Hydro-Gear website you will find instructions for changing the hydraulic fluid. The video doesnt show how to install this kit, but it comes with basic instructions. I bought extra oil so I could give it a good flush before refilling. You will need a hand pump to pump the new oil into the case. After you refill the oil, follow the video on the Hydro-Gear website to purge the air out of the lines, we had to do this process on ours twice.
One thing to note is that this kit doesnt look anything like the parts you take off. This is newly designed to stop the leaks. This was confusing to us, as it had us thinking we got the wrong part. We contacted Hydro-Gear and gave them the model numbers off of our transmissions and they verified this would work and is the correct part to stop the leaks.
NOTE: Be sure to mark the plates when removing and follow the instructions to make sure you get the plates on in the correct direction. The flat side on both of ours went towards the right side (drivers right if sitting in the seat).
TOOLS/SUPPLIES WE USED TO COMPLETE THIS REPAIR:
Oil drain pan, hand pump (screws onto bottle of oil on one end and other end fits into the hole on your transmission). Jack, socket wrench.
My wife was right, this stopped the leak. The mower also now moves faster and turns easier as well.
