Works just fine for batteries.

I was looking for a replacement of my glass hydrometer, dropped and broke the glass. I ordered this, price seemed fair. It came with a cloth case. I used it to check the specific gravity of a battery and was able to identify a dead cell in that battery. I find the scale easier to read than a floating hydrometer. Time will tell on longevity.
Exactly as advertised

I HAVE NOT USED THE BATTERY TESTING ABILITY. however, I am very pleased with the antifreeze testing portion of this. It does not feel terribly cheap, it arrived already calibrated (i tested with distilled water) and it has a nice little storage/carrying case. I Used it the same night it arrived to check my cars for the winter. I worked flawlessly and I am happy with my purchase so far. It should be noted that the numbers inside are pretty small.
Good Enough For Who It's For, Not 5 Stars

Good product. Basic but completes the task at hand. Would recommend if for personal use or you're a technician doing light to little cooling system work in the shop. Not the best or nicest model but like I said gets the job done right.
'0%' Calibration is at the Bottom of the scale!

As another reviewer stated, the scale you calibrate to is not clear. There is a 0 degree mark halfway up the scale, but the correct calibration point is 0% (distilled water) at the bottom of the scale. Once calibrated correctly (note that it was very almost exactly calibrated out of the box), the instrument works as described. Liked this package versus the other dozen of the same product for sale on Amazon since it included a labeled storage case to identify amongst other tools.
Works as described

I purchased these to measure percent antifreeze when draining and filling coolant in an older vehicle. When I received it, I tested it using pure distilled water as well as a measured dilution of new coolant. The readings seemed to be spot on out of the box, so I didn't tinker with the calibration (a jeweler's screwdriver was included for this purpose). It seems well made (heavy) and has an easy eyepiece focus adjustment. Mine came with a soft case, an adjustment screwdriver, a small microfiber cloth for cleaning the prism surface, and a soft plastic eyedropper to deposit the sample drop on the glass.
I've never used a refractometer before, but found it to be extremely fast and easy to use. Recommended.
