I did a lot of research before choosing this ac. There aren't a lot of brands to choose from like there used to be, and the market was almost exclusively Frigidaire and LG. One of my priorities was the noise level, as this unit is in a window in our family room, where we watch tv. This unit definitely meets the bar on that front. My other priority was reliability, and Friedrich has the best reputation on that score. Plus, it is energy star certified, although that no longer qualifies for a discount on my electric bill like it used to. At least I know my bill will be more reasonable than with some air conditioners. My son installed it by himself, so I know it's heavy but manageable. I'm very happy with the purchase.

Bought a discounted unit in "like new" condition, arrived completely smashed up and unusable.

Bought a full price "New" unit. The fan hits the internal styrofoam and makes an awful "Wham!-wham-wham!" sound. Posted a video of the noise, my review was then refused publication. Ordered a replacement for one last try.

Beware!

3rd ac arrived, it works great! And is very quiet too. The box looked used. I can see inside where the fan used to hit the Styrofoam. This leads me to believe Friedrich is refurbishing their faulty units OR running them until the internal styrofoam wears out from the fan hitting it, then reselling them as "New."

Don't Buy this item. Installed in wall. When tested, the inside blades close to front of unit hits the styrofoam insulation. Tried to fix it and now the back blade hit shroud. Have to fix unit because trying to sell home. Friedrichs have poor Quality Control. I blew any warrenty because I installed shell in wall already. DON'T BUY, DON't BUY, DON'T BUY!!!!

5 stars for the AC unit, it's the best one I've found for use in a bedroom. Quiet compressor, fan, doesn't rattle and actually hits the temperature you set it to.

1 star for their customer support in the warranty period. In a perfect world every single AC would work great, but things do fail and that's where the warranty comes in. But Freidrich makes it so painful and long:
Step 1: Have a licensed Friedrich installer inspect and determine the issue (this you pay out of your pocket, not cheap)
Step 2: Send report of defect to Friedrich to determine next steps
Step 3: Wait, follow up, wait, follow up... it's been 4 weeks in processing. Not sure why it takes that long to get me a replacement for a clearly broken AC unit.

The quietest AC I have ever had. This unit cools my entire apartment of 730 sq. ft. The efficiency rating (EER 12.1) saves me a significant amount of money as I live in a high electric cost area. The installation was straight forward. The unit is sturdy and well-built. The filter removal was clearly designed for above-window installation and is slightly awkward for bottom of window installation for filter removal and replacement as the hatch swings upward and you have to hold it while trying to remove the filter for cleaning. Minor quibble. The dry mode is wonderful on humid days. The energy saving mode is very nice and more importantly, I cannot hear when the compressor kicks in. Absolutely quiet. The side to side swing mode for the louvers is very handy since the outflow is only on one side of the machine. My apartment was suffocatingly hot but cooled down to a comfortable level in about 30 minutes. The remote control was broken but Friedrich replaced it without any hassle. New remote is terrific. There is also a timer control for people who want to have the AC turn on just before they get home from work. And, at least for me, I chose this unit because I did not want to control the unit with a smart phone or wifi connection. This unit was much more reasonably priced than the equivalent wi-fi unit. And as a prime member, I truly appreciated the free delivery. It was worth waiting for the mere 2 days it took for Amazon to deliver.
