Pretty straight forward installation. The supplied tool could definitely use some help. It kept walking out of the bolt that needed to be removed to install the shock and almost stripped out the head. It is difficult to apply pressure and turn at the same time. If you have ever changed a tire with a stock tire iron, you can get the idea. Plus it did not fit securely in the bolt. a socket design that you could insert a handle through would be better. A professional type socket would be cost prohibitive, but if you have one, use it. As far as functionality, it works great, hence the 5 star rating. I would definitely buy again if needed.

Works like a charm. Installed on my 2015 Ram 1500. I'm not super mechanically inclined and it took me 20 minutes. I did have access to the tools specified in the instructions. Did not have the closing tension or opening snag some other users reported on the same vehicle. Would buy again and definitely recommend. My dad is jealous. Wishes they made one for his model truck.

The unit functioned as advertised and was easy to install with one exception. The pivot that attaches to the tailgate would not tighten up without putting the lock-tight on the bolt and letting it set up over night. After that the pivot was able to tighten up to specifications. The instructions should state that at the very beginning to save the frustration.

The product works very well. Instructions are great. My only complaint in the nutsert concept. The mechanism needs the insert to catch on to the frame so it doesn't rotate while you tighten the nut. That's not so simple. It took me a few tries to correctly install it. Having ribs installed on the nutsert would have been helpful for it to catch during tightening. Pro tip: review the YouTube videos prior to install.

My wife and I are a pretty good DYI team, but have zero experience with doing any work on automobiles let alone a truck. We watched a video or 2 on YouTube and then together we put this on my new 2016 Ram 2500 crew cab, with a 6.4 hemi, short bed truck in about 10 minutes and we're still happily married !! I also realized I have dozens of open end wrenches, but none of them metric!! so I was forced to use an adjustable wrench, instead of a 10mm open end wrench, which still worked out fine. The kit provided the T-45 Torx wrench everything else needed was bone basic tools (13mm socket wrench (which I did have) an M5 Allen wrench, tape measure and a pair of pliers). Seriously this as easy to do as it gets and a must have on the tailgate of a truck for sure. Excellent value for the price, all pieces were there and was delivered extremely fast. An excellent investment for a little pay out and with even less effort. The 'Dee Zee DZ43301' Tailgate Assist Shock, we just installed, works perfectly. I highly recommend it.
