I bought this to protect the back of my fireplace which is beginning to show minor deterioration. The product is very heavy and works very well for my purposes. It stands up on its own nicely and is barely noticeable. I would recommend that before you order it, make a mock up of the fire-back out of foam core, cardboard or plywood to make sure it fits. If the back of your fireplace slopes, you will have to pull the fire-back out far enough so it can stand upright on its own which could cause you to lose some space for your logs. In my case that was not a problem.

This thing is BIG, HEAVY, and WONDERFUL! It does a great job of reflecting and keeping the heat.

So this product worked so well that the beams in our wall got hot and our house caught on fire. I'm not lying. We had the plate against the wall but not quite leaning against it. It really warmed the house up. I was surprised how this grate could produce so much heat. And then in January, the fireplace caught on fire. Its funny now because we are just getting back to our house after 4 months of living in a temporary house.

Good deal. Came quickly and easy to set up. I have a fireplace open on two sides so this is the side which is smaller. Fireplace is producing a little more heat now

Why didn't I do this sooner? I have a Marco prefab woodburning fireplace with firebrick sheets. At the time, I was told that a fireback would radiate too much heat for the fireplace. Well, after 23 years, I just replaced the fire brick sheets and thought, hey, let's look into a fireback again. And so I did. There is not much of a selection for 15" high products, so the one I have is very simple with no design. Simple, but amazing. When shopping for one, remember the "feet". Some firebacks come with feet, others you have to purchase separately. Mine was included. It's quite hefty and a bit awkward to place in the firebox (have to lift it up and over the gas starter) but it fit like a charm. Do I miss not having a design on it? Well, after a few fires, I'd like to know if anyone could actually see the design with the soot and ash that's now on it. Now, rather than most of the heat going up the flue, I have heat radiating back into the living room. The way this thing is made, I won't need to purchase another one. However, if I find myself in another house, you can be sure it will have a fireback from Grate Wall of Fire.
