Great fan for a Heatilator gas fireplace
John WidderMarch 2, 2017
Some of the screws attaching one of the blower housings to the motor were loose on the first unit I received. The second unit arrived the next day in perfect condition. It comes with a wiring harness with the connections for the fan motor and thermostat labeled which made assembly even easier. The connections for the speed control and the power plug were not labeled but it was easy to tell from the wiring diagram how they should be connected. The fan kit was ready for installation after only a minute or two of wiring. The biggest problem I had was that the grommets that they use for the feet came off when I was sliding the fan into position at the back of the fireplace. I put them back on and then was careful to not slide the fan on the bottom of the fireplace and did not have any further problems. The magnet on the thermostat made it very easy to attach to the bottom of the burner. The fan started up a few minutes after I started the fire and kept going for several minutes after turning it off exactly as expected. I set the fan speed to high initially to make it obvious when the fan came on. The fan is very quiet but it can move a lot of air and you can definitely hear it when the speed is set on its highest setting. I dialed the speed back to reduce the sound a little while still maintaining good air flow around the fireplace.

Bottom line: The fan was extremely easy to install and works well. I expect it will help spread the heat from the fireplace throughout the room and I'm very happy I bought it.
Great kit, saved a fortune over having the local fireplace shop come out and do this for me.

Installed easily. The included wiring schematic helped me wire it correctly, as the instructions were vague as this model fits many styles. Had to manually remove the grounding plug because my stove has only a 2-wire outlet for the fan.

I also had to temporarily disconnect the gas line in order to fit the blower all the way to the rear of the under-stove compartment. No big deal, but some people are funny about gas connections. Just make sure you use some soapy water to test your connection after you get it back together.
Good price, but shortcuts hurt!

When I received the package the product was protected sufficiently. Everything came as promised excluding two things. It didn't come with a screw to connect the ground wire to the fan's metal frame. I had to use the screw that came with the fan knob outlet cover and force it/strip it to work. Luckily, I didn't need the outlet cover for my fireplace model.
Lastly, the fan had a screw that wasn't screwed in all the way, causing a washer on the screw to rattle when the fan was turned on. This caused a loud, unwanted sound. I would have just tightened the screw myself but it was lodged in a spot I couldn't get to with regular tools. I would have damaged the fan if I tried to fix it.
Amazon gave me a full refund without a problem. I wouldn't recommend this product due to these inconveniences. If you want a cheaper fan that does the job, and you could live with these issues, this could be a good buy for you. Hopefully you get a better more thoroughly tested model than I received.
Pretty good product, awful instructions

The unit works fine at what it is designed to do... blowing heat. It has an annoying high pitched resonance-like sound that I can minimize at about half-speed on the fan.

However, the unit would be much easier to install without the instructions. The instructions include diagrams of the product that do not match the actual item, extremely poor sequencing, and inadequate information. For example, the first item is to make sure you've received everything, but there is no list, just a diagram. Prominent in the diagram is a picture of the unit with label pointing to "grounding wire. There is no grounding wire on the unit, so it leaves one to wonder "send it back or muddle through from here?".

Later, there is a statement (misplaced as far as sequencing goes) that the temperature sensor MUST be placed near the top of the unit. But what do they mean by unit? And what does "near the top" mean. (I wouldn't have worried about it but they emphasized "must" so it must be important.) There is a diagram with the sensor in a somewhat random position. It turns out (as I learned from a YouTube video) that the sensor actually sticks ON the ceiling of the equipment area of the fireplace (the underside of the firebox).

An email to the PayandPack got a quick response to my question about the missing ground wire. It said (like most of their responses to comments here) "read the instructions" -- a rather unhelpful and snotty response to a problem with the instructions!
Annoying noise. Returned fan.

After reading almost all good reviews I purchased this fan. Of course the fan I received had a horrible noise. Not an air noise but something was loose or defective. I posted a video, and the sound is obvious. I ended up just putting a highly reviewed fan meant to keep hard drives cool in its place. Cost me $17 is silent and works great. Obviously it doesn't move as much air but works perfect for me.
