Meinl Jumbo Bass Subwoofer Cajon with Internal Snares - NOT MADE IN CHINA - Walnut Playing Surface, 2-YEAR WARRANTY (SUBCAJ5WN)

Key features
- •MEINL'S BIGGEST AND BASSIEST CAJON: With a low end punch that you will feel the first time you sit down to play, the Mein Jumbo Subwoofer Cajon is mammoth in size and sound. The extra wide and extra deep body allow for superb low note development. The Jumbo Bass Cajon measures 13.5" wide x 19 3/4" tall x 13 3/4" deep.
- •FORWARD FACING SOUND PORTS WITH INTERNAL BASS REFLEX: An internal reflex channel directs the sound out through the forward facing ports to create a bass sound that feels like a kick drum. The forward sound ports replace the traditional rear facing style to envelop the player in a warm mix of bass tones.
- •CRISP SNARE DRUM SOUNDS: Internal fixed snares add the dimension of a crisp snare drum and are great for providing cutting tones when playing near the top corners of the playing surface. The top front plate corners are also adjustable with a screwdriver to alter the amount of distance between the playing surface and Cajon body. This results in enhanced slap tones that can deliver a deep back beat.
- •WALNUT FRONT PLATE AND MDF RESONATING BODY: Equipped with a walnut front plate, this Cajon is ultra-sensitive to soft finger rolls, giving you a wide range of dynamics to play with. The solid MDF body with thick rubber feet resonates fully while providing a strong structure for the instrument.
- •OFFICIAL TWO YEAR MEINL WARRANTY: All Mein cajons carry a two year manufacturer's warranty when purchased from authorized retailers.

Excellent cajon; awful customer service

Excellent snare & bass; dynamic sounds that change due to where and how you hit the instrument. Handle in the back makes for easy carrying. The front plate did crack during normal usage, and I when I attempted to contact the seller, they did not respond for 3 months. When they did respond, they refunded the cajon at no cost to me, & I bought another.

This cajón is something beyond lovely. I have played many different styles of the instrument all the way from Peru to Spain, and while this model is not your ¨classic¨ Andean nor Flamenco cajón, it redefines how a cajón can sound, feel and taste, because i assure you; its sounds are quite tasty! The bass heavy lows can be felt from across the room and the ultra crisp rims carry a warmth unlike any other. I was originally a bit hesitant with the MDF body but it may just have been one of the better decisions as i have next to no complaints about the sound AND it seems to reinforce the durability of the instrument as a whole. Which brings me to the size of this beautiful beast; not only as a 6'3 man do i feel comfy sitting and slap happily playing the cajón, but as a music educator i can put the thing on its back and comfortably fit 3-5 sets of hands all around the face.
In short: by far one of the best percussive musical purchases of my lifetime. ¡MuchÃsimas gracias, Meinl!

Worth the extra $

I told myself that I would only shell out $120 for a new cajon, as I am only a casual player (jamming with friends or helping with small band performances). After researching and watching videos of cajons in my price range, I'm super glad that I decided to spend the extra money for this one. The range of sound is amazing. Bass, snare, tom, and high hat sounds are very distinct compared to other cajons (there's often a blending of desired notes). If you're considering other meinl cajons on Amazon and wondering whether the extra $80-$100 is worth it, it absolutely is.
In LOVE with this drum!

The most well rounded sound I've heard from a cajon. I thought it might be too sub heavy and not have a good higher snare pitch but is great all around. Plus, the sub is by far the lowest I've heard from a box drum. Sound holes in the front fill a room much better than the traditional rear hole design. When mixe, this thing can punch a large room with beauty.
Big box and big boom for a taller person

My review of the Meinl Jumbo Bass cajon is based ultimately on my wants and how my expectations were met. That said, here is a rundown of what I desired and how this cajon fared:
1. Size and comfort: I am 6'3" and wanted a larger box to sit on. I've sat on an average $100 cajon, and though they would hold my 225 lbs. up, the play area felt small for my hands. The jumbo part of this cajon is correct, because it is a pretty big box. It's comfortable to sit on and provides an adequate area of play for the size of my hands. I definitely recommend this cajon for the big-and-tall musician out there.
2. Sound: I ordered a bass cajon because I wanted that boom, and the cajon delivers. The snares add a good jingle to it but aren't overwhelming. The output hole is at the bottom of the front, so acoustically sound is going to travel forward and up, so it is going to project well. And this thing can get loud if you're really banging on it. However, because this is a fiberglass box with a wood face panel, it doesn't hold the same warmth as an all-wood cajon. But that's not a negative "“ just keep in mind it won't sound the same.
3. Appearance: In short, it looks nice, especially the wood face panel. Because it looks similar to a subwoofer, it's a more novel cajon. But its darker, more neutral color doesn't stand out and isn't flashy, and I like that. It allows the sound to shine all the more.
