Tough decision between the instax camera and this printer
Brooke Bikneris✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 25, 2023
I had a hard time deciding whether or not I wanted to go with a Fuji Instax Mini camera, or this printer. Mainly my concern for the camera itself was that the images would be twice as bad, as far as image quality, since they were produced by an instant camera and on instant film. In the end I decided that I would go with the printer. I transferred images I took with other cameras to my phone and went from there. It is a lot faster to save them to your phone gallery than to print them from the Social Media option (namely Facebook). It wasn't terribly slow, but it was pretty instant from my phone's gallery. It is easy to load, easy to use and the images are quite good for instant film like this. My girls and I went through a whole pack of film last night and absolutely love them. The black and white images (quite nice) printed better than the color images. But they weren't terrible, just softly washed out. Of course, the bolder the image color you print makes a difference. The images I chose to print were very sharp, and printed nicely. This was a very fun purchase. I would absolutely buy it again if I needed to.
Great Product

Stopped working after 8 months so i returned it...but for the time it was working it was really amazing.

Picture Quality- Awesome. They are as crisp as can be and the colors are perfect. I could not tell a difference between the prints and seeing the pictures on my phone. This is key for me! I did a comparison between the Fujifilm prints and the Polaroid Zink paper. On the Zink paper the colors are way off and the picture is distorted.

Picture Size- The pictures are a bit small but not in a bad way. Because they are the that old school Polaroid style, there is space that the white border takes up. Also, these pictures are a bit thick, not like a classic picture at all. This is only an issue if you regularly keep a travel book and are putting all of these thick little pictures in it.

Portability- Very light. Small enough that you can toss it into any purse or bag but it's too big for your pocket.

Picture Price- Even with the best deal these pictures end up being about $1 dollar each and you run through them very quickly. The other products sell their pictures for about half that price but they are not the same quality.

Battery- This is the truly bad thing about this model. It is not rechargeable. You have to get those little CR 2 (i think) batteries which can really be a hassle.
Neat printer

It was either buying this printer or one of the actual instax cameras. The price tag on the printer was definitely higher but my concern with the camera was the issue of wasted film. After reading a bunch of reviews I decided to go with the printer.
I like it because I don't have to worry about carrying a camera wherever I go. If I want to capture a moment but forget to bring the camera, I can always print it out later at home and I can also pick and choose the picture I want to print so I know exactly what I'm getting. I like that I can also edit the photo with filters or print it black/white. It definitely gives me more options to edit how I want the picture to turn out.
Like others have pointed out, the pictures do come out overexposed and the colors more washed out. It's cute if you like that vintage-y Polaroid look. If you don't like that and want it to look closer to the original, after reading other people's experiences, the trick is to download Snapseed and edit the picture there first before printing. It helps if the picture you're printing is originally sharp and bright. The settings I use are -40~-70 brightness and +80~+100 ambience and sometimes ~+60 sharpness.
Overall, it's a good buy for me and what I was looking for. The film can be a bit pricey and also the batteries are a bit expensive. I already had a charger cord at home that was compatible so that wasn't really an issue.
WAS ANNOYED....UPDATED**

Okay, so I saw this on Oprahs favorite things list.. so OF COURSE I was excited to order this. Aside from purchasing the film separately (and quite expensive I might add)...still I waited. Delivery from the actual insta share printer came on a different day from the film. Annoying..but I waited an extra week for the film so I could finally try out my printer. Now, that I have both the printer AND the film...the printer DOESN'T work. Tried new batteries...taking film out and blowing air on the device like a old school Sega games..nothing worked. After reading confusing instructions (distracted from all the different languages and small pictures) I GUESS I have to order ANOTHER product. ..a DC IN 5V cord?? I don't even know BECAUSE NOWHERE DOES IT SAY I NEEDED THAT TO MAKE THIS DEVICE WORK. I'm over this thing. Should come with any cords necessary to make it work. ESPECIALLY IF I'M PAYING AS MUCH AS I DID FOR THIS. NOW, do I risk investing more money into this and buy this cord...after I buy that cord how do I even know its going to work?!

Very annoyed and disappointed. I can only imagine the trouble I'm going to have to go through just for my refund. -__-

Update***
So after going to the store for replacement batteries my instax share FINALLY WORKED. AND I AM HAPPY! pictures come out great...only 1 that semi didn't come out well but other than that...I'm obsessed with it! Still feel bummed that Polaroid paper/film (whatever) is still expensive as hell..buuuut the actual printer itself is fantastic!
power source issue

this printer is really fun to have. it's small enough to fit in a regular size tote even with a stack of the film cartridges. I love that it's an app via the smart phone, it makes it really great to have at parties and pass around.

the reasons I gave it four stars instead of five is:
1- the smart phone HAS to be on the printer's WIFI, which is fine, but then it seems to cancel out the regular reception to the phone. so instead of getting mail and text pictures as the party goes from friends and printing it easily, I had to constantly turn the printer's wifi on and off in my phone's settings to receive pictures and then turn it back on to print them. the added step is annoying.
2- the batteries that were included only had 2/3 their life left and it DID NOT come with a cable to charge it. what's that about? By the way, the batteries are size CR2 (first time I've come across these) and they ARE NOT rechargeable. So now i've got to purchase a power cable and extra batteries...
