DO NOT BUY!
Mike✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 1, 2017
While it was easy to setup it is a useless product that reboots and random times for no reason. For a gamer such as myself this is unacceptable and I am reviewing this as a DO NOT BUY! Netgear will not be getting my money in the future as they cannot produce a stable product. After looking online this is a problem with this model at least. I will be ditching it and replacing it with a more stable product. Would love to get my money back for this boat anchor!

Update: Bought an Arris router and it is working flawlessly. So I am sending this flawed unit back for a refund.
Not worth it, don't get any N-series Netgear router.

I hoped for so much more. I switched from AT&T Uverse to Comcast, so I bought the cheaper N300 version at first and was immediately disappointed. The wifi signal was very weak, it could barely go 20 feet through a standard wooden door. Not only that, but it would randomly stop working; the lights would all be green and appear normal, service was fine, but the box just stopped transmitting. Turned it off, turned it on, and it just worked again, at least until a few days later when I'd have to do it again, and again...

I decided to return it and upgrade to the N600 figuring it would perform better: it BARELY does. I still have to turn it off/on once a week for the same stupid wifi problem. The wifi signal reaches maybe 1 bar better than the N300; considering it's supposed to be 2x the power, you would assume it would perform 2x as good but it doesn't.

At this point it's too late to return the N600, but I would if given the chance to get something non-Netgear. I used to like Netgear, but I guess like most companies they go cheap and start building this garbage passing it off as good equipment. I gave this 2 stars because it does actually work some of the time.
fading into suckiness every week...

I'm in the network engineering field and it's sad to say that Netgear used to be great after they purchased Bay Networks. But lately, their products beginning to suck. Latest purchases after many products from them was a wireless extender. It sucked. Signal was in and out. This Router was recommended for someone like me to stop paying Time Warner from ripping me off for router rental fees. It worked great for a few weeks. Now it routinely needed a reboot once or twice per week. Runs hot too. I would probably not buy this product in the future but what are your choices out there? I need to start reading about other competing products. My Cisco (Lynksys) didn't fare well either. Oh well.....
Great alternative to Time Warner provided rental box. Saves money long term.

I purchased this as an alternative to renting one from Time Warner. I did not like the idea of having to buy both a modem and a router and was looking for an affordable two in one solution. This was the answer to my predicament. Despite being cautioned against not using the Time Warner supplied product (of course they wanted my $10 additional per month),

I have had no problems using it. My iPhone, MacBook Pro and iPad, are all connected to it so I can say that the interface it uses is definitely very Mac friendly.

In addition, my Canon wireless printer and two TVs (which use Firestick and Roku to access Netflix, Hulu, HBOgo, Amazon Prime and Sling) are also all connected to it at the same time. Sometimes I am streaming content on both TVs, working on my computer and using my phone or iPad simultaneously. The network never seems to slow or overload.

I also live in a two story townhouse. The device is set up downstairs because that is where my cable comes in. The installer said that despite most of what I was using it for would be done upstairs, it was better to keep it downstairs because the signal has an easier time traveling up than down. I believe he was right because I have not had any problem getting wifi upstairs. I also do a lot of computer work outside on my patio and have had no issues with the signal getting past the think outer walls even when the sliding glass door to the patio is closed.
Round one to Comcast

So Comcast allows you to rent / lease a modem from them for the super low price of whatever they are currently charging - which is a rip off at pretty much any price. I purchased a Netgear modem / router because I didn't want to pay for something that I could own for a few years and would come out ahead by saving a little money. That was the theory anyway. It quit working about 2 months before it paid for itself, yet after the warranty expired. In what universe is it possible that I would have been better off renting from Comcast? The worst part is going through the whole wasting of my day experience. You know the scenario: call Comcast, put on hold, go through the automated menu, reset your modem, still doesn't work, call Comcast, automated menu, put on hold, talk to real person, be told it is not their fault and a technician can come see you for the low price of $300, tell them no, reset your modem for the 10th time, realize that your modem is dead and you've spent 4 hours of your life doing something ridiculous. Now, to be fair, the modem did work like a champ when it actually worked. I never had an issue with it's functionality. Unwrap it, plug it in, it's good to go. The set up has been reduced to beyond easy. I just feel like in today's world a piece of electronic equipment should last for a couple of years. Especially when all it does is sit undisturbed in one location with a couple of wires plugged into it. Had to get a new modem and router - decided on separate equipment this time around.
