Amazing Allergen-Free Meal Replacement Shake
A. Nicole✓ Verified Purchase•October 8, 2023
I have always struggled with finding a protein powder/meal shake that would not upset my stomach and still contain all of the vitamins and minerals that I need on a daily basis, as well as supplementing enough protein to keep me full until lunch. While I am not a vegan or vegetarian, this plant-based protein powder provided me a dairy, gluten, soy, and other allergen FREE tasty meal shake that provided everything needed for the day.
Along with there being no allergens in this product, it is also advertised as being Non-GMO, which is another important quality for me. The supplement is not certified organic (95% of all ingredients must be organic for this certification), but many of the ingredients used in it are certified organic. The carbs included in this powder are sourced from Organic grains including amaranth, quinoa, and chia. This means that it is also a great source of fiber, and low glycemic, for a longer, slower burning energy. The Essential fatty acids that are supplemented in this powder are multi-sourced, and are sourced from flax, alagin (marine-based oil from algae), and sunflower. All of the vitamins used in this product are advertised as non-synthetic and derived from food sources, making them much more absorbable and bioavailable. The sprouted cruciferous greens used in Phood are also helpful in lowering plasma glucose and insulin levels, making it helpful for digestion and prevention of sugar highs and crashes.
The powder is a bit thicker in texture than the regular Plant Fusion powders, but in my opinion, dissolves more easily in both a shaker bottle and a blender; there is much less residue on the sides of either container, and requires less time and effort for mixing in the morning. However, you still need to take a bit of caution when scooping and emptying the powder into your blender or bottle - the powder can "poof" everywhere. When I was more careful and less hasty, the powder was perfect. (You need two scoops of powder per drink for this supplement)
It is recommended to consume the mixture in about 20-30 minutes after mixing. The ingredients in the supplement cause the mixture to thicken very quickly, which is why it is so filling and is an excellent meal replacement shake. I found that using one cup of water/coconut milk/almond milk and approximately 6-8 ice cubes (in a blender) makes the perfect consistency, even though the packaging says to use slightly more. I sometimes like to add a raw egg to the mix to make a more creamy and protein packed drink. If you don't like the idea of the egg, you could always use chia seeds or hemp seeds to thicken the mixture up a bit.
While this protein is a little bit more expensive than the Plant Fusion protein powder, it provides much more than just protein, including B vitamins, fiber, and the full profile of amino acids. This protein is listed for $37.35 on the Plant Fusion website, not including shipping. It is currently on Amazon for $39.99, with FREE 2 day shipping through Prime. Shipping is not free on other websites.
I love Vega supplements, but they are just way too expensive now that I have found this powder. This powder is very tasty (compared to others) and I have so far tried it in Chocolate Caramel. With all of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients in this powder and its ease of digestion, I highly recommend it above others if you are trying to find an actual meal replacement shake. I recommend this to everyone, vegan, vegetarian, omnivore alike.

I'm not big on pills and potions of any kind, but we'd been doing Vega One for a couple of months to see if we felt better in some way (eh) and then switched to this one for the same reason. Compared to Vega One, Phood is cheaper but more caloric. It also has fewer vitamins, according to the package labels which you can compare for yourself.
I rarely find anything particularly filling and sadly this is no exception. I can't make it all the way until lunch without snacking if I've just had Phood for breakfast. I had high hopes based on another review, but there you go.
Mixed with just water, the Chocolate Caramel flavor (where is the caramel, by the way?) is bland. It reminds me of the diet chocolate shakes that came around in the 70's and 80's: the ones that were okay on their own but you always wanted to add ice cream to them. But the real beauty of Phood is that, for a whole-food meal replacement shake, it is remarkably creamy and mixes well with other ingredients. You can trick yourself into thinking you're having a milkshake if you mix it, for example, with frozen bananas and peanut butter. After a lifting session, I like to blend Phood with water, 1 TBS hemp hearts, 1 c. frozen kale and 1 c. frozen blueberries. To me, the ability to blend with other ingredients is really how Phood stands out from Vega One, because Vega One has that overwhelming stevia flavor that is hard to mask. And Amazing Meal has a leafy greens flavor that is hard to overcome. But with Phood, you can wind up with a variety of tasty flavors, depending on what you add. That sure makes it easier to commit to a $45 purchase.
One drawback to Phood (besides the name, which is just terrible) is that it sticks in pasty clumps to the sides of the blender, meaning I'm scrubbing the darn blender after every use now. You can't just add water and soap and let the Vitamix do all the work. Also, our stomachs both had a noisy few days of an unpleasant adjustment period after switching to Phood. It's too soon for me to talk about any "results" we've noticed with Phood, since two people splitting a tub of it will only get 10 days each.
In all, we both like our morning smoothies made with chocolate caramel Phood. We're going to try one more tub's worth and then probably give these meal replacement shakes (and our wallets) a rest for a while. If you like this sort of thing, I highly recommend Phood to you.

Phood Good Nutrition (Non GMO) Convenient Meal Replacement
A. Griffin✓ Verified Purchase•September 30, 2023
I use Plant Fusion Phood Shake, Vanilla, 31.8 Ounces as a meal replacement about once a day. This powder blends well with water, or I use almond or coconut milk. I use this 28 Oz. Blender Bottle W/wire Shaker Ball- Pack of 2, Colors may vary to blend my shake.
The taste of the shake is good. Perhaps a little chalky. But it is good enough considering the convenience factor and nutrition factor. I can have a nutritious non gmo balanced dinner ready in a matter of a couple minutes. Keeping in mind that there are other powders out there with more nutrition. But I really lose out in the taste and/or blendability department. And it is more nutritious then what I come up with for just my single meal.
I start with about 5 cubes of ice in the bottle. Then fill it with cold filtered water, the amount is in the directions. I add the two scoops of powder and any flavorings I want to at that point. Then shake. I like buying the vanilla, because it gives me the most variety of flavors. I add chinese five spice when I want a chai flavor. I add cinnamon and nutmeg to get a cinnamon bun effect. I add about a tablespoon or so of this product 2 lbs Certified Organic Raw Cacao Powder From Latin America. 100% Raw, Organic, Pure, Kosher, Non-gmo, Vegan, Gluten-free , for a chocolate shake, plus a little cinnamon when I want a Abuelita taste. I also like to add certified organic raw peanut butter or peanut butter and the cacao powder. The last combination reminds me of peanut butter cups. I make homemade strawberry, blueberry, raspberry sauces - I use stevia, that gives me a nice variety of berry flavors. I use an orange juice and water for an orange julius effect. Like I said the vanilla flavor gives me the most variety.
One detraction that I experienced in the 1st few months of using this powder was being gassy. Over time though it has faded. I started using Phood in May 2013. And the gassy problem faded by July, but I still have some issues with it. But along with that feeling I have experienced more energy. I am now more regular - if you get my drift. Because I wasn't eating well. Just no time.
In summary Plant Fusion Phood Vanilla is a nice tasting base shake by itself. And you can add so many flavors, to get a variety of great tastes. Plus if I really want to up my nutrition I can add more whole food vitamins if I want. If you need nice taste, nutrition and convenience in one package at a fairly ok price. Then I recommend this one.

CURBS CRAVINGS, blends well, not chalky. Here’s how to use it...

For years I have had a protein shake every morning for breakfast, so I have tried almost every brand. I will buy this again because:
1. It doesn't create a gel-like consistency when blended into a shake. With other powders, the shake turns kind of gelatinous after a few minutes. The Phood powder does not do this, I can even make my shake in advance, as long as I keep it cold it still taste great hours later.
2. I am a registered nurse so nutrition is very important to me, Phood powder is high quality without any cheap fillers. It is "nutrient-dense" and gets me through the morning.
3. YUMMY and satisfying so I don't slip up and eat break room junk food. It's not a weight loss product, but I think it would be an EFFECTIVE WEIGHT-LOSS tool because it keep you full and satisfied all morning.
3. It tastes amazing! NOT CHALKY like other powders. Deliciousness without a bunch of sugar added.
4. Phood powder helps me get my daily greens because it masks the taste of the spinach or kale.
5. Saves $$$. I don't spend $ on coffee now. I save TONS by not buying coffee every morning - I add a spoonful or two of instant coffee to my smoothie recipe to get my caffeine fix. I save $50 a month!
Here is one of my fav recipes:
THE PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE BANANA SMOOTHIE
1 scoop Phood powder
1/2 ripe banana (or more if you like)
1.5 to 2 cups of coconut milk (or any milk you like)
2 cups (or more) of superfood greens like a spinach/baby kale mix
2 packets of Truvia sweetener (or honey if you like)
2 heaping tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder (it's full of antioxidants)
(Must be blended in a Nutribullet or another comparable smoothie maker)
If you don't like chocolate, you can replace with strawberries. Peanut butter can be replaced with almond or cashew butter. The variations are endless - you'll never be bored with breakfast again!
I hope this review was helpful in answering some of your questions. Happy shopping! â'¥ï¸

I really wanted to like this product. I am lactose intolerant and sensitive to whey protein so typical meal replacement shakes don't work out so well for me even when I take digestive enzymes. When I discovered Phood I got really excited; plant based proteins, all organic, omega-3s, probiotics & digestive enzymes right there in the mix! It sounded awesome... then I tasted it. No bueno! It tastes like chocolate flavored grass clippings. The texture is grainy and thick. I tried blending it with frozen fruit and almond milk, even threw in a little honey to sweeten it up, no go - still gross. Listen, I know this is diet food, I'm not expecting a milkshake, but this stuff triggers my gag reflex. I finally decided that the best way to take it is to mix it in a blender bottle with 12oz of water as directed on the box, plug my nose and chug it as fast as I can.
Pros: I gave it 3 stars for it's awesome nutritional value and the fact that it completely fills me up for a good 2.5-3 hours. It makes a great meal replacement shake, snack or post workout protein supplement. For vegetarians or those sensitive to whey like myself, our choices are very limited and I am actually very glad that a product like this exists.
Cons: It's just not palatable... I'm willing to pretend it's medicine and take it for the time being, if only because my options are so limited and because this is a great product otherwise, but I do hope that PlantFusion does something to fix the texture/flavor.
EDIT: I added a star because it's grown on me over the month or so of use. I probably will reorder as I do feel better taking it than I did when I was using a whey based meal replacement shake previously. Also I learned that this product is sweetened with Stevia, a natural sweetener. While that's good, I taste Stevia as bitter and not sweet, as I found a small portion of the population does, which is probably why I don't like the flavor of Phood all that much.
