I bought this bowl primarily to prevent ants from swarming cat food. However, haven't had any ant problems lately so can't attest for that. It does keep my kitties' crumbs from dropping on the floor, though, since they like to go in for a kibble and turn their heads while chewing.

The shallow bowls are easier for my cat to pick out the food from than the deeper ceramic ones he had before. Now he doesn't smear the food around as much, so I don't have to clump it back together and point to him where it is. Stainless steel is easy to clean too. Most importantly however, is that the water I fill the trench (built into the plastic stand surrounding the bowls of food) prevents the ants from entering the cat food. For that alone, this deserves 5*!

We had a really bad ant problem so I bought the Hepper Nomnom Cat Dish. Unfortunately, our cat is a messy eater. He keeps dropping is food in the moat. I'm not sure if he is reaching too far to eat but he drops too much food in the moat. the 2 bowls are also very shallow. There is plenty of room for his food but it is almost impossible to fill up the water bowl at the sink and it still be there when reaching the moat and food bowl. The plus is the moat is wide enough to keep those pesky ants at bay. I now clean the moat out daily because the water with the dropped food stinks. I also use cup to fill the moat and water bowl in place so as not to spill the water.
