great chair, may not be right for tall people
Barney✓ Verified Purchase•February 26, 2018
Very nice chair for occasional use. Light weight and folds up into a nice small package that certainly fits in our small trunk. It loses the 5th star for a single reason, the foot rests. Yes, the come off. Unfortunately, they seem to be sized for very short people, so a normal height person (5'7") is sitting a little uncomfortably, with their knees way up. Again, probably not a huge problem for occasional use, but it is a challenge for someone who struggles to life their knees up as high as necessary to get their feet on the foot rests. This one little thing spoils a great chair. I would have given them credit if I could at least buy longer or adjustable foot rests as an option, but looking at Karman's website that doesn't appear to be an option.
Perfect for short folks

I purchased this chair to gain some independence. I'm am a new amputee and I needed something light enough that I can put in my trunk myself while standing on one leg. This has has made it possible. The chair is small though. I'm okay with it being that I'm 5'2 but I couldn't imagine anyone taller then this being comfortable. I don't use the legs rests but when I tried them, they are very short. Even at my height they weren't long enough. I like the fold down handles feature but they often don't lock into place right away. Overall, I like this product and for just over 300 bucks, it's a good deal. There's no other wheelchair as light as this one for that low of a price.
Light is right.

Wow!!! What a difference, lifting 24 pounds of wheelchair into the trunk of our car, compared to the 43 pound wheelchair that our new Karman LT-980 has replaced. Just watch your fingers when you take it out of the trunk and open it up. If your fingers are in the wrong spot, they can get pinched in a major way. No, it won't take a finger off or cut you, but you will wish you had been warned about this propensity. Other than that caveat, we love it. Also, you may have to tighten up the axle nuts a bit, if the wheels are rubbing on the side of the chair. Jim A.
BEST COMPACT LIGHTWEIGHT WHEELCHAIR EVER!

Karman 24 lbs LT-980 Ultra Lightweight Wheelchair more than met my needs! I had been searching for a light weight Wheelchair that was small, light, and had a fold-down chair back like some travel wheelchairs. I was amazingly surprised when I saw this wheelchair. It had all of the features I wanted, and was very light and so easy to lift; just as described and demonstrated online.
I use regular vehicles, not paratransit, for transportation, and sometimes the drivers are reluctant to take me when they see a regular sized wheelchair. Some have complained about the weight and not being physically able to lift the wheelchair. But those drivers were small in number. There were more drivers who were willing to take me than not. Therefore, human kindness and goodness still prevailed, even in today's world.
The first time I used the Karman Wheelchair, the driver was quite surprised that it was so light and compact; and did not see the need to fold down the back, even though I proudly demonstrated the process. Since it is quite smaller than a regular sized wheelchair, it takes up less space in a vehicle and the environment in general.
The only problem I found was stiffness when propelling and maneuvering it. I like to wheelchair dance and found it difficult to do so, due to the lack of agility in movement. It was recommended that I try using WD-40 oil to allow more movement in the wheels. I will purchase it to determine if it helps.
Otherwise, I am so very, very happy with the Karan Wheelchair and the fact that it solved my transportation problem. I will gladly purchase another Karman 24 lbs LT-980 Ultra Lightweight Wheelchair when needed.

Liked the look of this wheelchair

Liked the look of this wheelchair. Fold down back and ability to get close to table. But the ease of changing the length of legs was hard, even though they provided tool. For me the wheelchair was hard to push with a 200 lb person on board and front wheels seemed to lock up.
