Great product IF
David HanzelDecember 17, 2017
I love the idea and it is great to have hot water on the far end of the house without wasting water.
A fine product IF: you have copper plumbing, I have ½ inch threaded and could not use the adaptors. The hot/cold supply lines are the NOT the nice stainless steel braided ones shown in the installation manual but much cheaper corrugated ones; I would not buy the USK again.
The real issue is if you have a significant cold water draw near the pump, such as garden sprinklers as we do; then hot water flows through the pump and you wind up watering your garden with hot water a big waste of energy! None of the solutions Taco offered were satisfactory so eventually I installed a solenoid valve (see image) and the system works as it should and we love the eventual functionality.
Pump did not work
Gary BrackeenAugust 24, 2017
After considerable work preparing the setup for the pump, when I plugged it in the pump would not turn on. I went through multiple steps (under Tech Support guidance) but was never able to get the pump to turn on. I then had to disassemble the entire setup, box up the pump and return it. I do plan on trying another pump and hoping it is not a dud also.
Water & Money SAVED!!!!
Mr. GreenAugust 11, 2017
When I asked a plumber what I could do about the hot water taking so long (> 1 min) to get to my bathroom, he suggested letting the water run while I go do something else......I couldn't believe how wasteful that solution was, and how much water so many people waste every single day......

Every home should have one of these units installed. There should be tax rebates for them, and the government should subsidize their production to bring down the cost. I've save so much water (and $$$) already, rather than just wasting / running it down the drain. If you have to wait more than 30 seconds for hot water in your bathroom, you should look into having a recirculating pump installed in your home.

I gave it 4 stars because I had a little trouble with the board inside the cover plate. It needed to be adjusted slightly (lifted up) in order to get a better connection. The pump wouldn't kick on otherwise. I also had a little trouble with the compression nuts, but I relate that more to my inexperience with plumbing.
Well made pump; greatly speeds delivery of hot water

This pump reduced the waiting time for hot water in my master bathroom from 90 seconds to about 7 seconds and eliminated 83 seconds of water wastage. It is designed to work without a dedicated return/recirculation water line, but can be used with one. The pump is installed at a sink that is furthest away from the water heater. It works by pumping cooled water present in the hot water supply line into the cold supply line until it senses that the water at the hot supply line actually is hot. The water pumped into the cold supply line travels in reverse toward the water heater. Because the pump is placed at the furthest point on the supply line, all faucets closer to the water heater benefit from one pump. This pump is manually activated by pressing a low voltage pushbutton at the sink. Optional wireless switches (similar to a garage door opener remote control) can be used to trigger the pump from other fixtures. An optional motion sensor trigger is also available, but this can only be installed directly wired to the pump and its use precludes wireless remote controllers. If you can run low voltage wires from the remote sinks to the pump (similar to a wired doorbell), that will also work, but is usually not practical for retrofits. The manual trigger saves money by minimising the amount and frequency of water pumped. Other types of pumps that run continuously require a dedicated return line; trigger the water heater more often; and cost much more to operate. This kit (008-CT-USK) contains two large bore flexible metallic water lines for connecting the pump to the water supply. Large bore lines are necessary for adequate flow. I have not seen similar large bore connect lines at Home Depot or Lowe's. The pump runs quietly; I have not had a problem with warm water coming from the cold water supply. If you install more than one wireless remote control, you will have to open the wireless receiver box to program each new wireless controller--a minor pain. The copper T pipe that ships with the kit did not accommodate my dishwasher, so I had to construct a custom copper adapter. It is advantageous to install shutoff valves on the hot and cold supply lines going to the pump in the event that the pump has to be taken out of the circuit for servicing; this kit does not supply valves. This company makes three pump sizes: 006, 008 and 011, with higher numbers representing greater flow rates. It is important to choose the correct pump capacity--neither too large nor too small. Go to the Taco Genie website to figure out what size you need. Tankless water heaters usually require the largest (011) size to function properly. Installation was straightforward. Overall a highly worthwhile investment.
Great to have hot water almost immediately to our to ...

Does exactly what it says it will do and does it quietly. Great to have hot water almost immediately to our to our second floor bathroom and shower. Installed fairly easily despite my somewhat inept plumbing experience.
