Quality leaves much to be desired...

I bought this awl for the C.S. Osborne name, I expected it to arrive sharp, sturdy and able to hold up to some 7/8oz finished veg tan leather stitching. It bent on my first hole! I should have checked to make sure it was sharp first i guess, but then again that is why I ordered this awl over any other cheaper similar model was for the name that I used to associate with quality sharp tools out of the package. I have reverted to my Tandy Crafttool pro diamond awl, it finished about 75-80 stitches and is still sharp and barely flexed at all. very disappointed, I may be able to salvage this by cutting off and shaping/resharpening myself, but why bother. I gave it one extra star since the blade didn't break when bending it back into shape...
Don't waste your money!

Just got this awl less than a week ago. The very first time I used it, it bent in two places: the tip end and where the metal joins the wooden handle. I was only trying to pierce birch bark, not wlevwn wood! VERY disappointed in this product. They get one star for delivering quickly, but what good is that when the tool is shoddily made?
Very cheap, low quality.

This is one of the cheapest and lowest quality awls I've ever used. The blade pulled out after several uses (literally 3 or 4 holes in).
I disregarded the low reviews and gave it a chance. Please don't make the same mistake I did.

Great awl for a beginner

Because I did my homework, I was expecting an awl that would need work before I could use it. In fact, this was the reason I picked this awl. I wanted to learn to sharpen and polish an awl and wanted one that I would not be too upset about destroying.
After putting some time in I am pleased to say that I understand the principles enough to have a decent awl now. It slides into the old leather boot I have nicely without a lot of the drag that was evident in the beginning. Off to a very good start.
The haft is the right shape and size to be able to push with the hollow of my palm with little effort.
The blade is long enough for what I am going to expect to use it for at this time.
I will most likely buy another of these again, although I expect to upgrade in the future.

It has a flatter diamond shaped blade like you would use for English style saddle stitching

This awl was exactly what I was looking for. It has a flatter diamond shaped blade like you would use for English style saddle stitching. The blade was set in the center of the handle and was not crooked. Once sharpened and stropped, this awl goes through thick leather like butter.
