My husband is a welder. I purchased this helmet bc he wanted a new one. When he uses the shield, the auto dark does not stay dark & flashes on him & hurts his eyes. Which isn't good bc he could get flash burn. He checked the batteries & they are fine. He can't use the helmet bc the room darkening does not work so he's back to using his old helmet.
Look elsewhere

Used it only intermittently. 8 months later, it seems as though it has a bug. Keeps bugging mid-weld. Will let the bright light through for no reason. Made sure to charge it in the sun - no help. Changed both batteries - no help. Will have to get a new one.

I bought this helmet to use for hobby welding, I am not a professional. I used it for the first time the other day welding up some holes on a friends exhaust system. I took it out of the box and let it sit under a light for about an hour to make sure the batteries were charged and then I used it. It worked great. There are adjustments inside the helmet to adjust the sensitivity and delay and settings on the side for adjusting overall darkness. The instructions give you the basics on how to adjust The head strap fit nicely and was adjustable, the adjustment on the side of the helmet to hold it up worked good. The control knob on the side even has a grind setting so you don't have to take the helmet off and get your safety glasses or face shield out, that came in handy for grinding in between welding as I was flux welding. Overall, this is a great helmet in this price range.
DOA

While the unit is fine in its design and construction (for the price) - it was DOA. The screen would "pulse dark" to show that batteries and such are fine - but it would not darken under direct sunlight (my other helmets would go max dark with the FL sun).
Weld now and then

If your like me and only weld two or three times a year this will suffice. If your a serious welder this isn't it. But if your a serious welder you already know you'll need to spend a couple hundred for anything serious. Its flimsy, does not fit or hold well on your head and you will need to adjust after just about every pass. The lens works fine and darkens instantly. So if your like me and only weld a few times a year this will get you by.
